Previously, the company assured customers that it had no need for customer data, and would figure out how to make Siri AI work well without it.<\/p>\n<p>Apple maintains that it \u201ctakes steps to ensure that personal data is not stored or used by Apple.\u201d But as <em>Heise<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heise.de\/en\/news\/Backflip-Apple-now-wants-to-train-AI-models-with-user-data-after-all-11451252.html\">points out<\/a>, and Apple has said in the terms of service for a few years now, the audio material may be listened to by Apple employees after anonymization.<\/p>\n<p>[\u2026]<\/p>\n<p>It also admits that data collected may be reviewed by \u201creview personnel.\u201d It is unclear if \u201creview personnel\u201d are Apple employees or a third-party company contracted to read conversation transcripts, as it has historically been.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2026\/09\/14\/ios-27-adds-new-opt-in-setting-for-sharing-data-to-improve-apples-foundation-models\/\">Chance Miller<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2026\/09\/14\/ios-27-adds-new-opt-in-setting-for-sharing-data-to-improve-apples-foundation-models\/\">\n<p>Starting today, when a user enables Siri AI, they will see a setup screen asking whether they want to opt in to \u201cimprove Siri and Apple Intelligence,\u201d with two options: \u201cShare Audio and Text\u201d or \u201cNot Now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>[\u2026]<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s important to note here is that nothing is changing about the type of data Apple collects if you opt in to this setting. What\u2019s changing is that Apple will now use the data to train and refine its Foundation Models, as well as Siri and Dictation like before.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/news.ycombinator.com\/item?id=49704226\">nunez<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/news.ycombinator.com\/item?id=49704226\">\n<p>iOS 26 had a toggle you could select to disable all Apple Intelligence features.<\/p>\n<p>That toggle was removed for iOS 27.
