The real test comes when a major account arrives, the workload spikes, a leadership transition begins, or a conflict that has simmered for months becomes impossible to ignore.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is often when I hear that a team needs to communicate better. The problem is that the middle of a tough situation is a costly time to discover that people do not know how to disagree, make decisions, or rely on one another.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Teams need to practice trust, conflict, and commitment before the stakes are at their highest. Otherwise, pressure exposes every ambiguity the group has avoided: Who owns this decision? Can I disagree with my boss? Will someone tell me directly if I am missing the mark? Are we committed to the same outcome?<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In my experience, trust is built through repeated interactions. People follow through, admit mistakes, ask for help, share unfinished ideas, and respond constructively when someone disagrees. When pressure rises, people fall back on the habits they already have. If avoidance, side conversations, and unclear decisions are normal during an ordinary week, they become much more damaging when the work gets difficult.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019ve also seen this work have the greatest impact when it begins with senior leadership. Senior leaders set the pattern when they invite disagreement, clarify decisions, name commitments, and hold one another accountable without making conflict personal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Team development is sometimes treated mainly as a morale activity. I see it as operational preparation. Teams that know how to work together spend less time recovering from misunderstandings or revisiting decisions nobody fully supported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you know a demanding season is coming, don\u2019t wait for the pressure to reveal whether your team is ready.
