As someone who recently had to move their comic book collection to a larger room, I understand your dilemma. I too had to find a solution to store my comic collection without breaking the bank. In this article, I will share my experience of how I found a great storage solution for my comics.<\/p>\n<p>So because I&#8217;m working from home a lot these days I&#8217;ve decided to switch to a bigger room but I had to take my comic collection with me.<br \/>Now my old room had horrible plastic garage type lock shelving and horrible ripped cardboard long boxes. Not a great look! <\/p>\n<p>One of my wife&#8217;s conditions of me moving to the larger room in the house was that I keep it nice and have some nice units to host my comic book collection. <\/p>\n<p>With this in mind I started researching how I could store my comics in an aesthetically pleasing way \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>So I checked out things like Ikea units , unfortunately I couldn&#8217;t find anything deep enough to take my long boxes.<br \/>I also looked at how I could build something for myself out of MDF and then maybe paint it, but I just don&#8217;t have the tools and the know how do do something like that although would have been fun to try!<\/p>\n<p>Then I stumbled on something. Kitchen units! <\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;re already painted, easy to assemble and come with shelves and if I wanted to put doors on I could!<\/p>\n<p>I got these from my local B&amp;Q which is just a hardware store, here&#8217;s a link to what I bought : <\/p>\n<p>Double Unit<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.diy.com\/departments\/goodhome-caraway-white-base-unit-w-1000mm\/3663602637479_BQ.prdc\" title=\"GoodHome Caraway White Base unit, (W)1000mm\">GoodHome Caraway White Base unit, (W)1000mm<\/a><br \/><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thecomicblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Screenshot-2023-03-26-at-12.16.44.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"426\" height=\"315\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1869\" data-wp-pid=\"1869\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thecomicblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Screenshot-2023-03-26-at-12.16.44.png 426w, https:\/\/thecomicblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Screenshot-2023-03-26-at-12.16.44-300x222.png 300w, https:\/\/thecomicblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Screenshot-2023-03-26-at-12.16.44-80x60.png 80w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 426px) 100vw, 426px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Single Unit<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.diy.com\/departments\/goodhome-caraway-white-base-unit-w-500mm\/3663602637448_BQ.prd\" title=\"GoodHome Caraway White Base unit, (W)500mm\">GoodHome Caraway White Base unit, (W)500mm<\/a><br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thecomicblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Screenshot-2023-03-26-at-12.17.09.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"335\" height=\"305\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1870\" data-wp-pid=\"1870\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thecomicblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Screenshot-2023-03-26-at-12.17.09.png 335w, https:\/\/thecomicblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Screenshot-2023-03-26-at-12.17.09-300x273.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 335px) 100vw, 335px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>These 2 units only cost me \u00a3100 far cheaper than buying the MDF and building the bases myself!<\/p>\n<p>I needed to store 12 long boxes so I picked a single unit and a double unit.<br \/>I bought some nice black plastic comic boxes from BCW to replace my old cardboard ones these were 50cm Length 20cm Width 28cm Height<br \/>Dimensions in inches Length (20inches) Width (8.inches) Height (11-inches)<br \/>I added a cm each side so the boxes could be pulled out easily and I wasn&#8217;t jamming them in.<br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thecomicblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Screenshot-2023-03-26-at-12.32.19.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"429\" height=\"317\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1874\" data-wp-pid=\"1874\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thecomicblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Screenshot-2023-03-26-at-12.32.19.png 429w, https:\/\/thecomicblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Screenshot-2023-03-26-at-12.32.19-300x222.png 300w, https:\/\/thecomicblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Screenshot-2023-03-26-at-12.32.19-80x60.png 80w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 429px) 100vw, 429px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Once I assembled the kitchen units as you can see the comic boxes sat nice and snug within the unit, but once I put the shelf in there was a problem with the top of the unit.<br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thecomicblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/6FDF01A2-925E-4F85-83D2-129689E8A9F0-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"440\" height=\"560\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1864\" data-wp-pid=\"1864\"\/><br \/>There was a back brace on the unit that was hitting the top of the comic box and also I couldn&#8217;t put the backing board of the unit in , but I wasn&#8217;t too bothered about that I was more concerned about the brace.This was preventing the box from sliding all the way into the unit. I couldn&#8217;t remove the brace as it was integral to the structure of the kitchen base unit.<br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thecomicblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/1CCFA616-CAE8-4C5C-A997-FA7E721D0A76-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"440\" height=\"560\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1862\" data-wp-pid=\"1862\"\/><br \/>So i decided to use a small L brace\/bracket to angle the back brace so that the comic box could slide nicely underneath.<br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thecomicblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/8AF95F08-89BC-4CAD-881C-66F33B4E766B-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"440\" height=\"560\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1865\" data-wp-pid=\"1865\"\/><br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thecomicblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/1C17CA67-C851-46B3-8276-28F9B2E4E489-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"440\" height=\"560\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1861\" data-wp-pid=\"1861\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The kitchen units came with legs but I opted not to put them on I didn&#8217;t want to mess around with facia\/skirting boards.<br \/>With that sorted I could bolt the units together and all I needed was a top , as these units are designed to put a kitchen counter top on them I bought a piece of MDF and then asked a carpenter friend to cut and attach the top to the base units. Which he did for the price of a few beers !<\/p>\n<p>I did use some of the L brackets\/braces to strengthen up the shelves and the unit itself just to add a little bit of stability.But once the units were bolted together and the MDF top was put on these we&#8217;re pretty solid!<\/p>\n<p>I bought some hard wearing furniture paint to paint the top white , long boxes loaded and voila ! <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thecomicblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/IMG_1258-1-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1175\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1868\" data-wp-pid=\"1868\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thecomicblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/IMG_1258-1-scaled.jpg 2560w, https:\/\/thecomicblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/IMG_1258-1-300x138.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thecomicblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/IMG_1258-1-1024x470.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/thecomicblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/IMG_1258-1-768x352.jpg 768w, https:\/\/thecomicblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/IMG_1258-1-1536x705.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/thecomicblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/IMG_1258-1-2048x940.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>One nice looking comic storage unit !
