John 8 shows the difference between Jesus living in the Spirit and the world living for satan.\u00a0 The Jewish leaders did not believe that Jesus was the Messiah.\u00a0 They argued with Jesus about it but they couldn’t understand what Jesus was telling them.\u00a0 Jesus said they didn’t understand because their father was “the devil.”\u00a0 They thought Jesus was questioning their paternity.<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

John 8:31-34 says:<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“<\/span>To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said,\u00a0\u201cIf you hold to my teaching,\u00a0you are really my disciples.<\/span><\/span>\u00a032\u00a0<\/span>Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.\u201d”<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

“33\u00a0<\/span>They answered him, \u201cWe are Abraham\u2019s descendants\u00a0and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?\u201d”<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Jesus told them that the truth would set them free from satan.\u00a0 His non-believers thought Jesus was talking about setting them free from slavery.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

John 8:34 says:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

“<\/span>Jesus replied,\u00a0<\/span>\u201cVery truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.”<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Jesus uses their own words.\u00a0 Jesus says to them that they are slaves to sin (as opposed to of slave owners).\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Then Jesus explains to them at John 8:35<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span>\u00a0“<\/span>35\u00a0<\/span>Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever.<\/span>\u00a0“<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Jesus is talking about His family in Heaven.His brethren.\u00a0 Believers of Christ Jesus Lord.\u00a0 Jesus says that a slave to sin, “has no permanent place in the family.”\u00a0 This means that a slave to sin will not go to Heaven.\u00a0 Jesus won’t adopt those who do the works of the devil into\u00a0 His blood line.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

In John 8:36, Jesus offers them hope through Him.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

“36\u00a0<\/span>So if the Son sets you free,\u00a0you will be free indeed.””<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The “Son” that Jesus says “sets you free” is Himself.\u00a0 Jesus is the Son of God.\u00a0 So Jesus is saying if you accept Jesus as the messiah who came to Save the world, then you will be Saved.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

John 8:37 quotes Jesus saying:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

“”<\/span>37\u00a0<\/span>I know that you are Abraham\u2019s descendants. Yet you are looking for a way to kill me,\u00a0because you have no room for my word.””<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Jesus tells them that they may be Abraham’s biological descendants,\u00a0 but they don’t have the same faith that Abraham had in God.<\/span>\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Then Jesus breaks it down for them and tells them in John 8:38:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

“38\u00a0<\/span>I am telling you what I have seen in the Father\u2019s presence,\u00a0and you are doing what you have heard from your father.\u201d<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Their father is the devil. Jesus was telling them that they were doing the works of the devil<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The detractors thought Jesus was questioning their descendancy:<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“39\u00a0<\/span>\u201cAbraham is our father,\u201d they answered.”<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Jesus again tells them that they don’t have faith in Jesus as the Messiah that Abraham had for God.\u00a0 That’s what John 8:39 means when Jesus says:<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“\u201cIf you were Abraham\u2019s children,\u201d<\/span>\u00a0said Jesus,\u00a0\u201cthen you would\u00a0do what Abraham did.”<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Abraham had complete faith in God and did not question God’s commands.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Then in John 8:40, Jesus told them that they are not like Abraham, who was faithful to God.\u00a0 Abraham “did not do such things,” referring to their attempt to kill Jesus.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Then Jesus again tells them that they are doing the work of the devil, their father.\u00a0 In John 8:41, Jesus says:<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“<\/span><\/span>41\u00a0<\/span><\/span>You are doing the works of your own father.\u201d”<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

But Jesus’ detractors again think that Jesus was questioning their paternity when they say in John 8:41:<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are not illegitimate children,\u201d they protested.”<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Then, in the same verse, the devil steps in through Jesus’ detractors.\u00a0 In the same verse of John 8:41 they say:<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“\u201cThe only Father we have is God himself.\u201d”<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

That’s clearly the devil speaking through the faithless Jesus non-believers.\u00a0 In the first part of the verse, they think that Jesus is questioning who their biological parents are.\u00a0 But Jesus was telling them that they were doing the works of the devil.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

But then in the same verse, they say that God is their only Father.\u00a0 The purpose of saying that to Jesus is to diminish Jesus’ Lordship.\u00a0 That’s straight out of the devil.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The devil wants to detract from Jesus.\u00a0 Why would the devil want to detract from Jesus?<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It’s because satan knows that the Blood of Jesus Christ is what defeated death.\u00a0 This means that Jesus Christ was crucified to pay for our sins.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Death symbolizes satan.\u00a0 Satan kills the spirit.\u00a0 Satan does it by taking our focus off from Jesus and onto worldly affairs.\u00a0 By not having faith in Jesus, satan murders the spirit.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

That’s what the following exchange in John 8:42-44 shows:\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

“42\u00a0<\/span>Jesus said to them,\u00a0\u201cIf God were your Father, you would love me,\u00a0for I have come here from God.\u00a0I have not come on my own;\u00a0God sent me.<\/span><\/span>\u00a043\u00a0<\/span>Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say.<\/u><\/i><\/span>\u00a0<\/u><\/i><\/span>44\u00a0<\/span>You belong to your father, the devil,\u00a0and you want to carry out your father\u2019s desires.\u00a0He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him<\/u><\/i>. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0
<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

With these verses in mind, I pray that our Lord Christ Jesus will make Himself known to the world so that satan’s influence over the world can eviscerate.\u00a0 Amen!<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n
