Whether this is due to inadequate lubricant,<br \/>\nimproper application, or incorrect quantity \u2014 it\u2019s hard to say. But<br \/>\nsomething is definitely off. A two- or three-year-old watch should not<br \/>\nbe developing power loss issues so prematurely. It would be really<br \/>\nhelpful if Omega commented, but I suspect a public statement is highly<br \/>\nunlikely.<\/p>\n<p>Again, I am not pointing fingers \u2014 merely reporting what we have observed.<\/p>\n<p>However, there is another issue with the latest batches of Moonwatches that bothers me greatly: the decoration.<br \/>The pattern on the mainplate is known as Geneva stripes. This<br \/>\ntraditional technique is now applied with modern CNC machinery, but<br \/>\nextreme care must be taken not to alter the tool\u2019s speed or angle of<br \/>\nmovement across the surface, as this results in an uneven and irregular<br \/>\nfinish.<\/p>\n<p>The key to Geneva striping is uniformity \u2014 and what we see, even on<br \/>\nwatches with display casebacks, is anything but refined, regular, or<br \/>\nprecise.<\/p>\n<p>Not only do the stripes vary significantly from watch to watch, but even<br \/>\n within a single movement. The balance cock and bridges often look as<br \/>\nthough they were produced with a great deal of inconsistency.<\/p>\n<p>The pictures say it all.<\/p>\n<p>Here are three photos of the 3861 movement.
