Stephen Jackson<\/a> posted a video rant a few days ago defending Daejon Love, a Stockton man who allegedly posed as a 49ers player to defraud 26 women out of $1.3 million. He rejects the public laughter at Love\u2019s elaborate scheme. \u201cY\u2019all ain\u2019t no better than him,\u201d he said. \u201cY\u2019all ain\u2019t no worse than him.\u201d<\/p>\n Federal prosecutors in the District of Oregon charged Daejon Love, 35, and Taylor Jamie Chan, 18, with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud on August 24, 2026. The FBI affidavit describes a scheme that began around February 2022 and continued until the arrests. Investigators identified at least 26 women in California, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho who sent approximately $1.3 million.<\/p>\n Love met most of the women on dating apps \u2014 Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, and Facebook Dating. He presented himself as a San Francisco 49ers wide receiver<\/a> who had worked his way onto the roster. In other conversations, he posed as a wealthy Swiss real-estate investor. He used aliases including Jon Love, Daejon Love, Avril Lyto Love, and Jordan Love.<\/p>\n Chan posed as Love\u2019s financial adviser. Together they showed fabricated bank and investment-account screenshots, staged three-way calls claiming gains, and pressed victims for loans or \u201cinvestments.\u201d Love also cultivated romantic relationships with many of the women and told them they were building a shared future. When the money ran out or questions increased, contact was cut off.<\/p>\n Love\u2019s football persona was detailed and convincing<\/a>. He posted Instagram content in 49ers gear and filmed himself running routes in a helmet. On social media, he displayed a customized jersey-themed cake with the number 7. In addition, he appeared in a 2024 video in which he signed what he represented as an NFL contract and said he was joining \u201cNiner gang.\u201d He purchased a replica helmet costing more than $1,160.<\/p>\n He name-dropped current and former NFL players \u2014 Jordan Love, Tyreek Hill, Antonio Brown. In at least one instance, he claimed kinship with Packers quarterback Jordan Love. Google and AI-generated search results briefly surfaced inaccurate statements that he was a 49ers player. He used those results as corroboration. Representatives of the 49ers and the NFL told investigators Love had never been employed by the team or the league.<\/p>\n Victims later described first dates at which Love arrived with a jersey and a helmet in the car. He sent voice notes about \u201cclearing waivers\u201d after a broken pinky. He claimed family ownership of Gucci stores. One woman who called herself his \u201clast victim\u201d said contact continued until the day of his arrest at Boise Airport.<\/p>\n Jackson\u2019s rant was not about the alleged fraud. Despite the $1.3 million, the 26 women, and the dating-app scheme<\/a>, Jackson didn\u2019t mention that. He treated the public laughter as hypocrisy by amateur sports talkers who themselves overstate their expertise. \u201cMost of y\u2019all are fake, and none of y\u2019all know what you\u2019re talking about,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n He questioned how people could laugh at Love for \u201cpsyching himself out that he was a football player\u201d when \u201ca lot of y\u2019all psyching yourself out, like you know about sports.\u201d He listed credentials the mockers lack: they \u201cdidn\u2019t make the church league, got cut from middle school, ain\u2019t never been in the professional locker room.\u201d Yet they \u201cwanna debate everybody about sports.\u201d<\/p>\n Football dreams and hoop dreams, he said, \u201care all the same.\u201d He concluded that the mockers are \u201cjust like this same clown\u201d who is \u201crunning around here with the 49ers helmet.\u201d<\/p>\n\n
