{"id":7054162,"date":"2026-09-01T18:35:38","date_gmt":"2026-09-01T18:35:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/recipes\/category-a-b\/bread\/sourdough-gingerbread-waffles-breadbakers\/"},"modified":"2026-09-01T18:35:38","modified_gmt":"2026-09-01T18:35:38","slug":"sourdough-gingerbread-waffles-breadbakers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=7054162","title":{"rendered":"Sourdough Gingerbread Waffles #BreadBakers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"post-body-1068007968123801226\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogger.googleusercontent.com\/img\/b\/R29vZ2xl\/AVvXsEg665EP7UY4YLfkoa0P5HFu7O7-k_yaZ1NaXEDATsczBNZObv06qXe_mh_kQ_dQ3rMuv01Ff5t17h6xotVIjcX4bImvo7tBzER1yFzkc4HgzLZ6VzN-EsAeEPh6UyNzmubJPOJxxxHnHmdwumFo1s71JUy6UfDFhI5ZtbW167ynB31UsjrScOdrJWXlzXM\/s4080\/PXL_20260111_200459506.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" data-original-height=\"3072\" data-original-width=\"4080\" height=\"350\" src=\"https:\/\/blogger.googleusercontent.com\/img\/b\/R29vZ2xl\/AVvXsEg665EP7UY4YLfkoa0P5HFu7O7-k_yaZ1NaXEDATsczBNZObv06qXe_mh_kQ_dQ3rMuv01Ff5t17h6xotVIjcX4bImvo7tBzER1yFzkc4HgzLZ6VzN-EsAeEPh6UyNzmubJPOJxxxHnHmdwumFo1s71JUy6UfDFhI5ZtbW167ynB31UsjrScOdrJWXlzXM\/w465-h350\/PXL_20260111_200459506.jpg\" width=\"465\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">My choice for our BreadBakers bake this month was breakfast breads!\u00a0 Breads and baked goods have always been high on the list of preferred breakfast foods for me.\u00a0 Well, I certainly like eggs and bacon, omelettes and such, but I will always say yes to a breakfast baked good.\u00a0 When my kids were little, we did a lot of pancakes and sometimes French toast, but what I decided I really loved was waffles.\u00a0<i>\u00a0(Crispy, FTW!)<\/i>\u00a0 Over the years, I have tried many gingerbread waffle recipes, because they sound so good.\u00a0 They all had decent gingerbread flavor, but they were universally chewy and limp.\u00a0 I just don&#8217;t think waffles should be waffle shaped pancakes.\u00a0 My personal preference is for light and crispy waffles, probably because I grew up with my Grandma&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/amessykitchen.blogspot.com\/2013\/02\/classic-waffles-with-raspberry-curd.html\" target=\"_blank\">ethereal waffles<\/a>.\u00a0 Then I found my forever favorite <a href=\"https:\/\/amessykitchen.blogspot.com\/2021\/08\/unfed-starter-sourdough-waffles.html\" target=\"_blank\">sourdough waffles<\/a> that are so light and tender crispy.\u00a0 Finally I got a clue and decided to just spice up my favorite recipe, and we have a winner.\u00a0 What&#8217;s also great about this type of sourdough recipe is that it is ready to go immediately because it uses only discard, unfed sourdough starter and requires no further souring time.<\/div>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Hint of Gingerbread Sourdough Waffles<\/span><\/i><br \/>makes 8-10 classic square waffles<\/p>\n<p>2 eggs<br \/>2 cups discarded sourdough starter<br \/>1 tbsp vanilla extract<br \/>\u2154 cup sour cream<br \/>2\u00bd tbsp melted butter, or avocado oil<br \/>3 tbsp molasses<br \/>1 tsp cinnamon<br \/>1 tsp ginger<br \/>\u00bc tsp each, cardamom and nutmeg<br \/>\u215b tsp each, ground clove, and turmeric (optional)<br \/>1 tsp baking powder<br \/>\u00bc tsp sea salt<br \/>\u00bd tsp baking soda<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Preheat waffle maker according to manufacturer instructions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In a medium bowl, whisk together the starter, eggs, salt, vanilla, sour cream, melted butter, and molasses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In a small dish, mix together the baking powder, baking soda, and spices\u00a0(it&#8217;s a good idea to put<br \/>\nthe soda through a mesh sieve to remove any lumps).\u00a0 Sprinkle the spice mixture over the top.
