Can contemporary <i>Mary Worth<\/i> come up with a storyline that could come close to that magic? Well, today we\u2019re launching a new one, and I\u2019m mildly hopeful, as it introduces two intriguing things: Mary and Ian <i>spending time together socially<\/i> and, apparently, enjoying themselves in a quite manic fashion; and some anhedonic old lady sitting in her Charterstone kitchen <i>fuming<\/i> about how nothing is as good as it used to be when she was young and had her whole life ahead of her. Not even putting oat milk on oat-based cereal (or \u201coatmaxxing,\u201d as the kids call it) can bring her a frission of pleasure anymore! Looking forward to learning how she\u2019s about to make this everybody else\u2019s problem and nip Mary and Ian\u2019s <b>ha ha!<\/b>ing in the bud.<\/p>\n<p><i>Rex Morgan, M.D.,<\/i> 8\/31\/26<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/joshreads.com\/images\/26\/08\/i260831rmmd.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>OK, fine, I guess we\u2019re not going to get to see the scam twins <a href=\"https:\/\/joshreads.com\/2026\/08\/honestly-surprised-that-toilet-lid-isnt-carpeted\/#rmmd\" target=\"_blank\">try and fail to pull off a child kidnapping<\/a>, but at least we\u2019re going to be treated to a Socratic dialogue between Rene and his elaborately coiffed and mustachio\u2019d jail buddy, in which the former attempts to explain how <b><i>rat<\/i><\/b>ing on a criminal associate entails turning them in to the authorities, usually in exchange for reducing one\u2019s own looming criminal penalties, and is quite different from activating family networks to dissuade a loved one from a course of action that you don\u2019t believe they\u2019re equipped to handle.<\/p>\n<p><i>Pluggers,<\/i> 8\/31\/26<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/joshreads.com\/images\/26\/08\/i260831pluggers.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>You could definitely have done a panel with this caption where the plugger is cheerfully strolling ahead with a measured pace, just like many older heavyset adults I see every day do.
