{"id":7053394,"date":"2026-09-01T04:41:36","date_gmt":"2026-09-01T04:41:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/uncategorized\/lawmakers-journalists-rip-cbs-news-over-insane-blatantly-racist-headline-on-abdul-el-sayed\/"},"modified":"2026-09-01T04:41:36","modified_gmt":"2026-09-01T04:41:36","slug":"lawmakers-journalists-rip-cbs-news-over-insane-blatantly-racist-headline-on-abdul-el-sayed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=7053394","title":{"rendered":"Lawmakers, Journalists Rip CBS News Over &#8216;Insane, Blatantly Racist Headline&#8217; on Abdul El-Sayed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/media-library\/michigan-democratic-senate-primary-winner-abdul-el-sayed-holds-news-conference-day-after-primary-win.jpg?id=67577791&amp;width=980\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Several Democratic lawmakers on Monday slammed CBS News for publishing a news analysis linking Democratic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/us-senate\">US Senate<\/a> candidate Abdul El-Sayed to the September 11 terrorist attacks.<\/p>\n<p>The CBS story <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/abdul-el-sayed-deleted-social-media-sept-11-attacks-michigan\/\" target=\"_blank\">claimed<\/a> that El-Sayed &#8220;may be facing the risk of renewed scrutiny and fresh political attack&#8221; ahead of the 25th anniversary of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/911\">9\/11<\/a> attacks, which killed over 3,000 people in New York, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/pennsylvania\">Pennsylvania<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/virginia\">Virginia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The piece cited two deleted El-Sayed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/social-media\">social media<\/a> posts to make its case: One in which he called on Americans to unite in a common purpose to combat the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/covid-19\">Covid-19<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/pandemic\">pandemic<\/a> just as they came together after the 2001 attacks, and another where he drew attention not just to the victims who died on 9\/11, but to all the people who died afterward as a result of the US <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/war-on-terror\">War on Terror<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>El-Sayed defended the latter post in an interview with CBS News.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My point is just to say that what happened on 9\/11 is a disaster,&#8221; El-Sayed said. &#8220;It was a terrible attack on our country and our responsibility is also to think about how do we build an America where we are protecting our servicemen and women from being asked to fight wars we have no business fighting that ultimately end up doing harm to people. And we&#8217;re seeing that right now.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Critics slammed the CBS analysis, which they said unfairly tarred El-Sayed\u2014a Muslim and son of Egyptian immigrants who has repeatedly faced Islamophobic and racist attacks\u2014as a terrorist sympathizer even as he has consistently denounced the 9\/11 attacks.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What an insane, blatantly racist headline,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/yassaminansari\/status\/2094452384319582475\" target=\"_blank\">wrote<\/a> Rep. <span>Yassamin Ansari<\/span> (D-Ariz.) in a social media post. &#8220;Unreal.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/rashida-tlaib\">Rashida Tlaib<\/a> (D-Mich.) also <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RashidaTlaib\/status\/2094489245926793554\" target=\"_blank\">slammed<\/a> the CBS story as &#8220;racist,&#8221; adding that &#8220;targeting Abdul like this is intentional and coordinated.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Nation&#8217;s Jeet Heer argued that the CBS News piece reflected the change in management the network has undergone ever since owner David Ellison put Bari Weiss in charge of it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<span style=\"background-color: initial;\">To be clear the Bari Weiss project&#8230;<\/span> is to revive post-9\/11 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/islamophobia\">Islamophobia<\/a> in mainstream politics,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/HeerJeet\/status\/2094445144632099292\" target=\"_blank\">wrote<\/a> Heer. &#8220;These are profoundly illiberal people, who should be combated not just by the left and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/progressives\">progressives<\/a> but anyone committed to civil equality.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Responding to the network&#8217;s post promoting the article on the platform X, Zeteo editor-in-chief <span>Mehdi Hasan <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/mehdirhasan\/status\/2094449295655059917\" target=\"_blank\">asked<\/a> CBS News if it ever considered that &#8220;it&#8217;s super offensive and disgusting and Islamophobic to do a tweet about the potential first-ever Muslim Democratic senator which begins by referencing 9\/11?&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Adam Johnson, host of the <em>Citations Needed<\/em> podcast, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/adamjohnsonCHI\/status\/2094430086996926640\" target=\"_blank\">highlighted<\/a> the El-Sayed social media posts flagged by CBS and argued that the network is trying &#8220;to scandalize perfectly sensible and humane comments.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Progressive commentator <\/span><span>Wajahat Ali <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/WajahatAli\/status\/2094447885614035283\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a> that he&#8217;s seen a lot of mainstream media articles attacking El-Sayed, but concluded that<\/span> &#8220;this one takes the cake for being so exquisitely racist.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/WajahatAli\" target=\"_blank\"\/><\/p>\n<p><span>According to Zeteo media columnist Justin Baragona, one anonymous CBS News staffer is also raising concerns about the El-Sayed story, which they called &#8220;trash&#8221; and &#8220;horribly Islamophobic.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Several Democratic lawmakers on Monday slammed CBS News for publishing a news analysis linking Democratic US Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed to the September 11 terrorist attacks.
