By Saturday evening, delays and cancellations were spreading across the network as airports attempted to maintain capacity. Passengers experienced long waits, missed connections and unplanned overnight stays as the effects of the strike widened.<\/p>\n<p>The situation intensified on Sunday morning when <a href=\"https:\/\/travelradar.aero\/ethiopian-airlines-hits-a-light-pole-at-oslo-gardermoen-airport-norway\/\">Oslo Gardermoen Airport<\/a> (OSL), the country\u2019s main hub, was forced to halt all scheduled commercial movements between 6:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Only emergency, military and police flights were permitted to operate during the five\u2011hour closure. Sunday had been forecast as one of the busiest travel days of the season, with 95,521 passengers expected at Oslo.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/travelradar.aero\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Gardermoen-North.jpg\" alt=\"Gardermoen North Terminal exterior pictured at night.\" width=\"800\" height=\"553\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Initial mediation led by National Mediator Mats Wilhelm Ruland did not result in compromise \u00a9 Ivan Brodery<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>By Sunday evening, Avinor\u2019s timetable recorded multiple cancelled flights at Oslo Airport (OSL), Norwegian accounted for 72 of these cancellations, affecting around 9,000 passengers.<\/p>\n<h3>Strike Resolved<\/h3>\n<p>For travellers, the regulatory framework offers limited protection. Air traffic control strikes are generally classified as extraordinary circumstances, meaning airlines are not required to pay standard cash compensation. Local emergency assistance, such as blankets and camp beds provided by the Red Cross to stranded passengers in Bergen, formed the main support available. Passengers whose flights were cancelled or delayed by more than five hours could request reimbursement or rebooking, though they were advised not to cancel reservations themselves.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\" data-start-index=\"93\">The four-day industrial dispute in came to an end on Aug. 24, following six hours of negotiations between the Norwegian Air Traffic Controllers\u2019 Association (Norsk Flygelederforening) and the employers\u2019 organisation Spekter. The confidential agreement, which averted a planned Tuesday escalation into Troms\u00f8 and northern airspace, provides a wage increase tied to Norway\u2019s national industry benchmark (<\/span><i class=\"ng-star-inserted\" data-start-index=\"520\">frontfaget<\/i><span class=\"ng-star-inserted\" data-start-index=\"530\">) alongside new provisions for rest periods, trainee instruction, and shift rules for senior controllers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Have you been affected by the disruptions?
