On the 63rd anniversary of the March on Washington, Democrats honor Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and every trailblazing civil rights leader by committing to fight back against Donald Trump and Republicans\u2019 attacks on every American\u2019s sacred right to vote. Trump, whose approval rating continues to tank to historic lows<\/a>, knows his failed record of sky-high costs and chaos will lead Republicans to defeat this November. That\u2019s why, after the Supreme Court functionally gutted Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act in Louisiana v. Callais<\/em>, Republicans are doing everything they can to dilute the voting power of Black and Latino voters in a desperate attempt to cling to power.<\/p>\n

Democrats are fighting tooth and nail against Republican attempts to rip away Americans\u2019 access to the ballot box. Just this week, the DNC, DCCC, DSCC, DGA, and congressional leaders Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries took the Trump administration to court<\/a> over their unlawful attempts to restrict mail-in voting. Additionally, 24 Democratic attorneys general and Governor Josh Shapiro sued<\/a> to block this action from the Trump administration. Earlier this summer, the DNC filed an amicus brief<\/a> in Watson v. RNC<\/em> \u2014 a shameless attempt by Republicans to eliminate grace periods for mail-in ballots received after Election Day \u2014 which the Supreme Court ultimately rejected<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In response,<\/em> DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIn the wake of partisan attacks against the Voting Rights Act, we are organizing, registering new voters, and protecting the sacred right to vote. As racial gerrymanders try to draw Black and Brown members of Congress out of their seats, we are fighting back to ensure voters can elect leaders who represent them \u2014 that is how we honor all the civil rights activists who paved the way for us. Even when the odds are against us, we will keep fighting and organizing to protect every American\u2019s right to vote.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the aftermath of the Louisiana v. Callais<\/em> decision and amid the Trump administration\u2019s threats to undermine voters\u2019 access to the ballot box, Democrats have been fighting nonstop to hold Republicans accountable and ensure the voices of all Americans are heard this November.\u00a0<\/p>\n
