Kapi Michalska is a graphic designer and expressive portrait painter based in Szczecin, Poland, working primarily in Procreate.

Michalska’s signature style layers semi-realistic facial features with bold, abstract shapes and colorful, expressive brushwork, so the shapes she draws don’t just decorate a portrait but actively bring new meaning to it. Her subjects range from portraits of real people, including a piece named “Minerva” inspired by a Polish art historian’s balaclava selfie, to pieces about inner emotional states, like “Finding Inner Strength,” which she describes as speaking to a woman’s process of recovery. Her work has been described as bold, colorful, and focus-capturing, distinguished by how the abstract elements complement rather than obscure the underlying image.

She’s thoughtful about the ethics of drawing inspiration from real people online — in one post she explained she asks permission before turning someone’s social media photo into a portrait, while openly wondering aloud whether public posting should be treated as an implicit invitation for artistic reinterpretation. Her art has been exhibited internationally, including shows at the ALEF Cilento Festival in Italy and displays in Naples and Pescocostanzo.
