Just after midnight near Phoenix on 14 August 2026, a pair of American Airlines flights using the same call sign were on the same frequency, creating confusion and the potential for an accident.\u00a0<\/p>\n

American Airlines 2482 arriving in Phoenix was descending through 11,000 feet while American 2482 from Phoenix was climbing toward 9,000 feet when pilots and air traffic control realized that both flights were using the same call sign.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Upon realizing the possible conflict, ATC instructed both flights to maintain a safe altitude to ensure no conflict. Additionally, ATC began using clear phraseology for each aircraft, speaking to \u201cAmerican 2482 on approach\u201d and \u201cAmerican 2482 on departure.\u201d<\/p>\n

The aircraft crossed paths without incident and both continued to their destinations for safe landings.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
