What happens when the local residents celebrate community healing through various art forms.<\/p>\n It sounds like HIP-HOP. It becomes thousands of people gathering downtown. It feels like a neighborhood coming together around music, wellness, remembrance, and the belief that a city can evolve its story.<\/p>\n That is the energy behind 24HRS OF PEACE<\/strong> Newark\u2019s annual 24-hour festival returning August 28\u201329<\/strong> to Halsey and Market in downtown Newark.<\/p>\n Running from 6 p.m. Friday through 6 p.m. Saturday<\/strong>, the free, family-friendly event will bring together national music artists, local talent, community organizations, wellness professionals, families, and residents for a full day dedicated to culture, connection, and violence prevention.<\/p>\n And after more than 15 years, the message behind the festival feels especially relevant.<\/p>\n Newark has real progress to celebrate.<\/p>\n The city recorded 31 homicides in 2025, its lowest total since 1953<\/strong>. So far in 2026, Newark has recorded just six homicides, representing a 64.7% decline compared with the same period in 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Those numbers are significant\u2014but they don\u2019t tell the entire story.<\/p>\n This gathering represents lives that weren\u2019t lost, families that weren\u2019t forced to grieve, and neighborhoods given another opportunity. Co Founder Hakim Green is apart of the mobilization of much needed community infrastructures. <\/p>\n That\u2019s where 24HRS OF PEACE comes in.<\/p>\n Rather than treating violence prevention as something that only happens in government offices or after a tragedy, the festival puts the conversation directly into the culture.<\/p>\n Music becomes the meeting point.<\/strong><\/p>\n The 2026 lineup is a reflection of how deeply hip-hop is connected to Newark and the wider culture.<\/p>\n This year\u2019s performers include Memphis Bleek, Freeway, MC Lyte, Bunna B, Kyle Richh, DMC, Coi Leray, Ron G, DJ Doo Wop, DJ Lil Taj and friends<\/strong>, alongside the highly anticipated Tsu Surf and Arsonal Battle for Peace<\/strong>.<\/p>\n It\u2019s an impressive lineup, but the bigger story is what happens when artists with influence step into a conversation that extends beyond entertainment.<\/p>\n Hip-hop has always documented what communities experience.<\/p>\n It has told stories about survival, ambition, loss, injustice, family, love, and transformation.<\/p>\n Now, 24HRS OF PEACE is using that same cultural power to talk about what comes after survival<\/strong>.<\/p>\n What does healing look like?<\/p>\n What does community look like?<\/p>\n And what happens when the culture becomes part of the solution?<\/p>\n One of the strongest elements of 24HRS OF PEACE is that the music isn\u2019t the entire experience.<\/p>\n The weekend includes yoga, health and wellness programming, gospel performances, poetry, vendors, community resources, social-service connections, and activities designed to bring different generations together.<\/strong><\/p>\n Wellness programming featuring NDO Champ, Haqqi Mu, Nikki D, and others<\/strong> adds another layer to the conversation\u2014because violence prevention isn\u2019t only about what happens in the streets. It\u2019s also about mental, physical, and emotional well-being.<\/p>\n There\u2019s even a special effort to feed Newark\u2019s seniors.<\/p>\n A healthy community isn\u2019t built around one age group.
