In this post I\u2019ll explore how our thinking can go wrong and how it can go right, depending on how we approach (and seek to understand) evolving situations in our complex global society. <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Can Go Wrong<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2\" style=\"line-height:1.6\">As humans, we tend to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/leadingincontext.com\/2020\/11\/04\/clarify-dont-oversimplify\/\">want things to be simpler than they really are<\/a><\/strong> because digging into complex issues requires effort. But when we oversimplify issues to make easier decisions there can be serious unintended consequences. <\/li>\n<li class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3\" style=\"line-height:1.6\"><a href=\"https:\/\/leadingincontext.com\/2025\/03\/26\/shallow-thinking-2\/\"><strong>Shallow thinking<\/strong><\/a> can lead to believing and acting on limited information that does not reflect the whole reality. This \u201cpartialized\u201d perspective can lead to sharing misleading information and taking unethical action. While a \u201csimple explanation\u201d is tempting to believe, most situations have many complex and connected variables that are not reflected in a shallow interpretation. <\/li>\n<li class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-4\" style=\"line-height:1.6\"><a href=\"https:\/\/leadingincontext.com\/2019\/08\/07\/the-complexity-of-ethical-thinking-and-decision-making-part-2\/\"><strong>Ignoring the context<\/strong><\/a> can lead to missing key elements (that are critical in understanding the issue or situation). <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>These and many other things can go ethically wrong<\/strong> when we <strong>think about <\/strong>reality in narrow, shallow or short term ways.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>If you drive a sports car on a crowded city street with your eyes closed, people are going to get hurt (including you).
