A washer is twenty minutes. A leak behind a wall means opening the wall, and nobody quotes that properly by phone.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The licensing thing nobody mentions<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most rankings of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instaservice.com\/category\/plumbing\">plumbing services<\/a>\u00a0skip this, and it matters more than any of them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is no single national plumbing licence. Most states run one, but\u00a0<strong>five do not: Missouri, Pennsylvania, Wyoming, Kansas and New York.<\/strong>\u00a0In those, licensing is handled by cities and counties. A plumber licensed in Kansas City is not automatically licensed in a neighbouring county, and \u201clicensed plumber\u201d in Philadelphia means something different from the same phrase in Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So \u201clicensed and insured\u201d on a van is not a claim you can take at face value. Ask which authority issued the licence, and check it with that authority rather than the plumber.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The same gap explains why the line between trades gets blurry on small jobs. What a handyman can and cannot do on plumbing varies by state, and on anything involving gas, main lines or permits, the answer is nearly always that you need the licensed trade.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Four questions before you book<\/h2>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Who issued your licence, and what is the number?<\/strong>\u00a0Then verify it with the issuing body.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Is that a quote or an estimate?<\/strong>\u00a0A quote holds. An estimate does not.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Does the service call fee come off the job?<\/strong>\u00a0Sometimes yes, often not. It is $50 to $200 either way.<\/li>\n<li><strong>What is the after hours threshold?<\/strong>\u00a0Some firms start the premium at 5pm, others at 8pm.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">National platform or local firm<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Local firms win on relationships and on big work. Once you have a plumber who knows your house, keep them, and there is a good case for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instaservice.com\/blog\/10-reasons-why-you-should-hire-local-plumbing-services\/\">hiring a local plumbing service<\/a>\u00a0for anything sizeable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Platforms win on speed and on the small stuff.
