\u201cWhat has God entrusted to us, and what does He want to accomplish through our union?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\nA marriage that is an assignment from God is not necessarily a marriage without challenges. In fact, assignments often require patience, sacrifice, growth, and perseverance. Two imperfect people are learning to love, forgive, communicate, and build together. Sometimes the very areas where marriage stretches us are the areas through which God develops our character.<\/p>\n
Ephesians 5:25 tells husbands to love their wives \u201cas Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.\u201d That is not merely romantic love; it is sacrificial love. Marriage teaches us that love is not only a feeling. It is a decision to serve, protect, forgive, encourage, and sometimes put another person\u2019s needs ahead of our own.<\/p>\n
If your marriage is an assignment from God, then your spouse is not simply someone who exists to make you happy. You have also been entrusted with the responsibility of helping that person become all that God intends them to be. Your words can build them or weaken them. Your support can strengthen their confidence. Your prayers can cover them. Your presence can become one of the ways God expresses His love and encouragement in their life.<\/p>\n
And the assignment may extend beyond the two of you.<\/p>\n
God may use your marriage to raise children, mentor younger couples, build businesses, serve a community, support ministry, create a home of peace, or demonstrate what commitment looks like in a world where relationships are increasingly disposable. Ecclesiastes 4:9 reminds us that \u201ctwo are better than one, because they have a good return for their labour.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sometimes, therefore, the purpose of a marriage is revealed not only in what the couple enjoys together, but in what they are able to accomplish together<\/strong>.<\/p>\nSeeing marriage as an assignment also changes the way we approach difficult seasons. Instead of immediately asking, \u201cIs this still making me happy?\u201d<\/em> we may also need to ask, \u201cWhat is God teaching us here? What needs to change? What must I learn? What does obedience look like in this season?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\nThis does not mean tolerating abuse, destructive behaviour, or pretending serious problems do not exist. Wisdom, accountability, counselling, and appropriate boundaries may be necessary. But it does mean understanding that ordinary frustrations, differences, and disappointments are not always signs that the marriage has failed. Sometimes they are invitations to grow.<\/p>\n
Perhaps one of the most important prayers a married couple can pray is:<\/p>\n
\u201cLord, what did You bring us together to accomplish?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\nBecause when marriage becomes only about personal fulfilment, disappointment can easily become the measure of success. But when marriage is understood as stewardship, both husband and wife begin to look beyond themselves.<\/p>\n
Your marriage may be a place of love and companionship, but it may also be a platform for purpose.<\/p>\n
So build it carefully. Protect it deliberately. Pray over it consistently. Invest in it intentionally.<\/p>\n
And never forget: if God has given you a marriage as an assignment, then the goal is not merely to stay married. It is to fulfil the purpose for which the two of you were brought together.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
