Amy Tjasink<\/a> is taking us to Cape Town\u2019s Deep South. \u201cKommetjie Boys\u201d, the latest single from the Cape Town singer-songwriter and producer, starts the trip to Valley Girl<\/em>, Tjasink\u2019s new album rooted in her own personal roadmap the places and faces that have made her.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Following the success of previous singles \u201cFeels Like Mzansi<\/a>\u201d and \u201cShadows of the Sun<\/a>\u201d, the project finds Tjasink looking inward towards themes of home, friendship, motherhood, and freedom. At the centre of that story is \u201cKommetjie Boys\u201d, a nostalgic, feel-good ode to Tjasink\u2019s teenage years and the legendary \u201cRound Parties\u201d of Kommetjie.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Produced with Theo Mulder at Tjasink\u2019s Pretty Loud<\/a> HQ studio in Westlake, the track captures the warmth and carefree energy of the coastal communities she grew up around, pairing catchy pop hooks with the kind of specifically South African storytelling that makes a song feel like home.<\/p>\n

The music video takes that idea of home quite literally. Directed by Tjasink and Josh Adams, it was made with the intention of capturing what Kommetjie actually feels like rather than constructing a polished approximation of it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The pair took the song into the streets and along the coastline, meeting locals as they went; a group of surfers encountered at a local surf shop joined the cast, while Arianna Carini and Siyoli Waters became part of a makeshift band performing around the village. The result is spontaneous, playful and rooted in the people who give the place its character.<\/p>\n

Valley Girl<\/em> is presented as a musical memoir,\u00a0 and \u201cKommetjie Boys\u201d is perhaps its clearest invitation into Tjasink\u2019s history. \u201cIt\u2019s not just a song about a place \u2014 it\u2019s about a way of growing up,\u201d she says. \u201cI hope that even if you\u2019ve never been to the Deep South, this song makes you feel nostalgic for your own hometown.\u201d<\/p>\n
