Breaking it down, their message includes three categories of covenant violations identified in Deuteronomy: <\/span><\/span><strong style=\"font-weight:700\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>idolatry, social injustice, and reliance on religious ritualism<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>. These infractions are serious in the face of God who had endured their waywardness over time.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p class=\"n58GL wgYGg _3ea47 EsZzH\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-88g05114\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"HWr-d\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>An example can easily be extrapolated from the Book of Isaiah. Chapters 1-3 immediately serve as a \u201cprosecutor\u201d of Judah for covenant violations<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p class=\"n58GL wgYGg _3ea47 EsZzH\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-9t9g2116\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"HWr-d\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>related to Deuteronomy. Remarkably, <\/span><\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah%201%3A2&amp;version=LSB\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"PEY94 _4dQlf\" data-hook=\"web-link\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><u style=\"text-decoration:underline\"><span>Isaiah 1:2<\/span><\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span> correlates with<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p class=\"n58GL wgYGg _3ea47 EsZzH\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-3ip5g118\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"HWr-d\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>Scripture in Deuteronomy (<\/span><\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Deuteronomy%204%3A25-26&amp;version=LSB\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"PEY94 _4dQlf\" data-hook=\"web-link\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><u style=\"text-decoration:underline\"><span>4:25-26<\/span><\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>; <\/span><\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Deuteronomy%2030%3A19&amp;version=LSB\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"PEY94 _4dQlf\" data-hook=\"web-link\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><u style=\"text-decoration:underline\"><span>30:19<\/span><\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>; <\/span><\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Deuteronomy%2031%3A28&amp;version=LSB\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"PEY94 _4dQlf\" data-hook=\"web-link\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><u style=\"text-decoration:underline\"><span>31:28<\/span><\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>), indicating that heaven and earth witnessed the covenant agreement between Yahweh and Israel, and now, in Isaiah\u2019s court setting, heaven and earth will witness against Judah\u2019s violations! It&#8217;s quite amazing how God\u2019s word connects the covenant agreement in this way!<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p class=\"n58GL wgYGg _3ea47 EsZzH\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-xq0nz134\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"HWr-d\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>As a result, Yahweh directs multiple charges against Judah. Within <\/span><\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah%201&amp;version=LSB\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"PEY94 _4dQlf\" data-hook=\"web-link\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><u style=\"text-decoration:underline\"><span>Isaiah 1<\/span><\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>, the Lord<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p class=\"n58GL wgYGg _3ea47 EsZzH\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-7755b136\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"HWr-d\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>declares that His children have forsaken Him. Judah\u2019s disrespect of the Lord earned<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p class=\"n58GL wgYGg _3ea47 EsZzH\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-bu1w0138\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"HWr-d\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>judgment (<\/span><\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah%201%3A7-9&amp;version=LSB\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"PEY94 _4dQlf\" data-hook=\"web-link\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><u style=\"text-decoration:underline\"><span>1:7-9<\/span><\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>) via invasion and destruction, and <\/span><\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah%201%3A10&amp;version=LSB\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"PEY94 _4dQlf\" data-hook=\"web-link\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><u style=\"text-decoration:underline\"><span>verse 10<\/span><\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span> goes on to essentially compare Judah with Sodom and Gomorrah. Because of their half-hearted devotion to the Lord, the prophet calls out their religious ritualism and hypocrisy; the people engaged in empty worship to avoid the Lord&#8217;s righteous demands. Their religious acts were hypocritical because their hearts did not belong to Him; thus, their acts of worship annoyed the Lord. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p class=\"n58GL wgYGg _3ea47 EsZzH\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-zqn51379\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"HWr-d\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>Furthermore, Isaiah 1 calls for social justice among the people of Judah; God demanded help and encouragement for the oppressed. The theme of judgment continues as Judah\u2019s leaders are accused of mistreating the poor (<\/span><\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah%203%3A14-15&amp;version=LSB\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"PEY94 _4dQlf\" data-hook=\"web-link\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><u style=\"text-decoration:underline\"><span>3:14-15<\/span><\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>), and their wealthy wives are also indicted (<\/span><\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah%203%3A16-26&amp;version=LSB\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"PEY94 _4dQlf\" data-hook=\"web-link\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><u style=\"text-decoration:underline\"><span>3:16-26<\/span><\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>). In graphic fashion, the chapter describes judgment against these women as everything of their arrogant and seductive lives was to be taken from them! Isaiah\u2019s language is direct, and it does not withhold the Lord\u2019s anger!<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p class=\"n58GL wgYGg _3ea47 EsZzH\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-6lhxp573\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"HWr-d\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>So, are the charges that Yahweh presents against His covenant people relevant to contemporary believers? Indeed, the answer is &#8220;yes.&#8221; While we enjoy the provisions of the <\/span><\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musingsofacommonman.com\/post\/a-better-covenant\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"PEY94 _4dQlf\" data-hook=\"web-link\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><u style=\"text-decoration:underline\"><span>New Covenant<\/span><\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>, our hearts, if not properly guarded, can engage in empty worship that is not worthy of God. Comfort, as described in Isaiah, can surely promote self and an array of idols. So, we should ask ourselves questions&#8230;<\/span><\/span><strong style=\"font-weight:700\"><em style=\"font-style:italic\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>What do we think about most of the time, and how do we spend our days? What are we placing above Yahweh?<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/strong><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span> In essence, syncretism is introduced into our hearts if our loyalties are divided. This is exactly what Isaiah describes in the opening trial of Judah.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p class=\"n58GL wgYGg _3ea47 EsZzH\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-ocmqi630\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"HWr-d\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>Relating to the comfortable American life, it is often inconvenient to concern ourselves with the welfare of others. Social injustice is considered only as a political term by many. <\/span><\/span><strong style=\"font-weight:700\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>So<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>, <\/span><\/span><strong style=\"font-weight:700\"><em style=\"font-style:italic\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>do we have time to care for and defend the helpless?<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/strong><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span> A self-centered life of ease can lead us to disregard those around us and to neglect our horizontal relationships, waiting for the government or someone else to take care of others. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p class=\"n58GL wgYGg _3ea47 EsZzH\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-v6pts764\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"HWr-d\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>Finally, reliance on religious ritualism today is not unlike the issue of Israel\u2019s<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p class=\"n58GL wgYGg _3ea47 EsZzH\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-7mjun766\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"HWr-d\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>time. Because idols and social injustice can exist within church buildings, there is a tendency to rely on religious formality and even church attendance to mask waywardness and apathy toward the two greatest commands (<\/span><\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Matthew%2022%3A36-40&amp;version=LSB\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"PEY94 _4dQlf\" data-hook=\"web-link\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><u style=\"text-decoration:underline\"><span>Matthew 22:36-40<\/span><\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>). I am also reminded of God\u2019s words in <\/span><\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah%201%3A10-15&amp;version=LSB\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"PEY94 _4dQlf\" data-hook=\"web-link\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><u style=\"text-decoration:underline\"><span>Isaiah 1:10-15<\/span><\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span> as He speaks of His disdain for religious hypocrisy. This facet of God&#8217;s character has not changed; we can be certain of this. May we be on guard and continually evaluate our motives.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p class=\"n58GL wgYGg _3ea47 EsZzH\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-a8h2919625\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"HWr-d\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>Ultimately, the Old Testament prophets present powerful lessons that we must heed today. Their message is more than relevant. Our Lord wants our undivided attention, and He desires worship offered with a heart that loves Him and His commands.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p class=\"n58GL wgYGg _3ea47 EsZzH\" style=\"padding-top:0px;padding-bottom:0px;line-height:max(0.8em, 1em)\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-ysuvx918\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"HWr-d\"><strong style=\"font-weight:700\"><em style=\"font-style:italic\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>Give ear to the law of our God,<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p class=\"n58GL wgYGg _3ea47 EsZzH\" style=\"padding-top:0px;padding-bottom:0px;line-height:max(0.8em, 1em)\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-a2f39924\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"HWr-d\"><strong style=\"font-weight:700\"><em style=\"font-style:italic\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>\u201cWhat are your multiplied sacrifices to Me?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p class=\"n58GL wgYGg _3ea47 EsZzH\" style=\"padding-top:0px;padding-bottom:0px;line-height:max(0.8em, 1em)\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-x7tug931\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"HWr-d\"><strong style=\"font-weight:700\"><em style=\"font-style:italic\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>\u201cI have had enough of burnt offerings of rams<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p class=\"n58GL wgYGg _3ea47 EsZzH\" style=\"padding-top:0px;padding-bottom:0px;line-height:max(0.8em, 1em)\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-xm1nm938\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"HWr-d\"><strong style=\"font-weight:700\"><em style=\"font-style:italic\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>And the fat of fed cattle;<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p class=\"n58GL wgYGg _3ea47 EsZzH\" style=\"padding-top:0px;padding-bottom:0px;line-height:max(0.8em, 1em)\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-3fuhc941\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"HWr-d\"><strong style=\"font-weight:700\"><em style=\"font-style:italic\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>And in the blood of bulls, lambs, or goats I take no pleasure.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p class=\"n58GL wgYGg _3ea47 EsZzH\" style=\"padding-top:0px;padding-bottom:0px;line-height:max(0.8em, 1em)\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-f8cuy948\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"HWr-d\"><strong style=\"font-weight:700\"><em style=\"font-style:italic\"><sup><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup><\/em><\/strong><strong style=\"font-weight:700\"><em style=\"font-style:italic\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>When you come to appear before Me,<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p class=\"n58GL wgYGg _3ea47 EsZzH\" style=\"padding-top:0px;padding-bottom:0px;line-height:max(0.8em, 1em)\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-da3cf952\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"HWr-d\"><strong style=\"font-weight:700\"><em style=\"font-style:italic\"><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0, 0);text-decoration:inherit\"><span>Who requires of you this trampling of My courts?<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p class=\"n58GL wgYGg _3ea47 EsZzH\" style=\"padding-top:0px;padding-bottom:0px;line-height:max(0.8em, 1em)\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-abhtr959\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"HWr-d\"><strong style=\"font-weight:700\"><em style=\"font-style:italic\"><sup><span style=\"color:rgb(0, 0,
