My body ached from hiking in the heat, I hadn\u2019t eaten anything great all day, and I was feeling the slow crash that comes after too much sensory input and not enough rest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So I wasn\u2019t expecting much. I just wanted the check-in to be smooth and the bed to not suck.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, I got one of the best hotel stays I\u2019ve ever had in Quebec.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le Germain didn\u2019t just meet my needs \u2014 it got out of the way and let me breathe. The room was spacious, quiet, and thoughtfully designed. The view stretched over the spa and the fields, and it felt like the first place on the whole trip that didn\u2019t need anything from me. It just let me exist.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the slow afternoons wandering past alpacas and Highland cows, to the absolute <em>dream<\/em> of a celiac-safe dinner (those ribs live rent-free in my brain), this hotel delivered on every level that mattered.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-theme-palette-3-color has-theme-palette-7-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-1 wp-block-paragraph\">Thanks to Tourism Charlevoix and Bonjour Quebec for hosting me. There was no clutter. No harsh lighting. No awkward layout to navigate when I was already overtired and sore from the day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The space felt like it had actually been designed for people \u2014 not just Instagram. There was a real desk if I needed to work, a balcony overlooking the Nordic spa, and the kind of bed that makes you want to skip everything and sleep.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And it was <em>quiet<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That kind of quiet is hard to find when you\u2019re bouncing between activities and new places. But here, I didn\u2019t feel like I had to do anything. I could just exist.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_best_meal_of_the_entire_trip_%E2%80%94_and_it_was_gluten-free\"\/>The best meal of the entire trip \u2014 and it was gluten-free<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I don\u2019t say this lightly: the best meal I had in all of Charlevoix came from the restaurant at Le Germain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As someone with celiac disease, eating out while travelling is usually a mix of reading every ingredient twice and hoping the server actually knows what cross-contamination means. But not here. Either someone on staff is celiac or they\u2019ve spent time learning how to actually accommodate dietary needs \u2014 because I felt safe the second I sat down.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And then the food showed up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I still think about those ribs. Tender, flavourful, falling apart in the best way \u2014 and totally gluten-free. The kind of meal I rarely get to order at a restaurant, let alone actually enjoy without second-guessing every bite.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The starter salad nearly stole the show.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It came topped with this thick slab of goat cheese that had the consistency of brie but a little firmer. It\u2019s the kind of cheese that instantly makes it onto your dream dinner party menu.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paired with roasted beets and the kind of dressing you\u2019d bottle if you could? Chef\u2019s kiss.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even dessert delivered!<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A proper gluten-free brownie that didn\u2019t taste like an afterthought or sad apology for not having cake. 2\"\/> <\/source><\/picture><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the kind of spa that makes your whole body unclench.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Access <strong>isn\u2019t included in your stay<\/strong>, but for <strong>$60 CAD per person per hour<\/strong>, I\u2019d still call it 100% worth it \u2014 especially if, like me, your joints have been whisper-screaming since your last hike.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can check the pricing and book your time slot <a href=\"https:\/\/www.germainhotels.com\/fr\/hotel-et-spa-le-germain\/charlevoix\/spa-nordique-le-germain\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on their site here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Outside, there\u2019s a cozy warm pool you\u2019ll never want to leave, a steaming 40\u00b0C hot pool that basically recalibrated my spine, and a cold plunge that I popped into for a brave five-second count before running out like a cartoon character \u2014 no regrets, but also never again.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Inside, I skipped the cedar saunas (tree allergies are cute, right?) and melted into the eucalyptus steam room instead. And just lying out in the sun afterward, steam still clinging to my skin, felt like pressing the restart button on my whole system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s technically a no-phones policy, but it\u2019s pretty relaxed. People were reading or quietly scrolling. No one was FaceTiming or blasting music, which kept the vibe calm and respectful.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And the real cherry on top? The soundscape isn\u2019t spa music \u2014 it\u2019s bleating sheep from the adjacent farm and the splash of the hot tub. That was me, on my way to meet the cows.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The farm at Le Germain is technically <em>right there<\/em> behind the spa \u2014 but getting to it is like an obstacle course designed by nature and poor impulse control. I saw a few families just <em>looking<\/em> from the hilltop, but I was fully committed. Sandals and all.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It had rained recently, so the dirt path was basically a mud pit. My shoes were getting suctioned into the ground like I was being slowly consumed by Charlevoix itself. Would I recommend proper shoes? Absolutely. Did I care? Absolutely not.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because Highland cows!<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I used to live in Scotland, and I\u2019m obsessed with these sleepy-faced, mop-headed creatures. One of them walked right up and <em>licked<\/em> me. Like we were friends. Like I belonged there. Like it knew I was emotionally fragile and in desperate need of bovine affection.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There were also sheep flopped over like they\u2019d had a rough day, chickens gossiping about everyone\u2019s business, bunnies darting around like tiny chaos agents, and even a couple of alpacas who aren\u2019t technically part of the hotel\u2019s farm, but they connect on the walking trail. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can actually see the whole field from the hotel balconies too \u2014 it makes for a dreamy morning coffee view <em>as long as the wind isn\u2019t blowing the wrong direction<\/em>. Just saying.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"My_Room_in_La_Bergerie_Pavilion\"\/>My Room in La Bergerie Pavilion<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I stayed in a <strong>Classical room in the La Bergerie Pavilion<\/strong>, which is just one of five unique buildings that make up the property. Mine was in a more tucked-away corner of the hotel grounds \u2014 a bit of a stroll from the spa and restaurant, but not like \u201clug your suitcase uphill both ways\u201d far.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was quiet, surrounded by fields, and had that lovely <em>I\u2019m-not-in-the-city-anymore<\/em> calm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The highlight? <strong>The bed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019m not kidding when I say it was the <strong>best sleep I had on the whole trip<\/strong>. The mattress is so comfy that the hotel literally <em>sells it<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Same with the bedding! <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The pillows? Fluffy but not annoying. The sheets? They\u2019ve got everything from suites to more affordable <strong>dorm-style rooms<\/strong>, which are kind of like luxe hostel rooms \u2014 shared bunks, shared bathrooms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I didn\u2019t stay in one, but it\u2019s wild that you can get a Le Germain experience at that price point!<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each pavilion has its own vibe. Some are closer to the spa and lobby. Some overlook the pastures or the mountains.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re traveling with mobility needs or just want less walking, definitely check the map or call ahead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.germainhotels.com\/fr\/hotel-et-spa-le-germain\/charlevoix\/chambres\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">where you can check out all the rooms<\/a> \u2014 highly recommend clicking through because it\u2019s honestly kind of fun seeing how different they all are.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Where_do_you_park\"\/>Where do you park?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re driving, parking at Le Germain is free and super easy \u2014 no extra fees, no confusing ticketing systems, no valet awkwardness. You just roll in and park. Done.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They\u2019ve got a good-sized lot that never looked crowded during my stay. <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Get_There_and_Why_I_Want_to_Go_Back_in_the_Fall\"\/>How to Get There (and Why I Want to Go Back in the Fall)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, I didn\u2019t take the train this time \u2014 I was on a press trip and we drove in \u2014 but if I go back, I\u2019m <em>definitely<\/em> taking the Charlevoix train in the fall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It runs from Quebec City to La Malbaie and stops right at the hotel (literally right there \u2014 the station is on the property). I can already picture the fall foliage through the train windows, cup of tea in hand, wrapped in a scarf like I\u2019m starring in a quiet-luxury commercial.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re coming from Quebec City and don\u2019t want to rent a car, this is such a chill option. Plus, arriving directly at the hotel? Epic!<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, you probably need a car to get around Charlevoix. A lot of the activities weren\u2019t in walking distance, especially if you\u2019re disabled like me.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_Solid_Base_for_Exploring_Charlevoix\"\/>A Solid Base for Exploring Charlevoix<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I could\u2019ve happily never left the hotel. Between the farm animals, the spa, the restaurant, and the absurdly comfy bed, the tourism rep basically had to pry me out of there! <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But if you do want to explore the rest of Charlevoix (and you should), the hotel\u2019s in a great location.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s just a few minutes from Baie-Saint-Paul\u2019s main strip and close to local hiking trails, art galleries, and cideries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You get the luxury stay <em>and<\/em> the easy access to everything that makes this region special.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Small_Touches_That_Made_a_Big_Difference\"\/>Small Touches That Made a Big Difference<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The public spaces at Le Germain have a really relaxed, lived-in vibe. Like, yes it\u2019s design-y, but it\u2019s not trying too hard. It feels cozy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s a big communal lounge with couches, books, and even a fireplace in cooler months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s also a wine dispenser in the lounge where you can pour yourself a glass (paid, but fun), and some games like ping pong and foosball.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I don\u2019t drink or play table games well, but I still like the addition! <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even the hallways smell good. Like someone actually cares about your nose being happy.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"I_Cant_Wait_to_Bring_Theo\"\/>I Can\u2019t Wait to Bring Theo<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le Germain is dog-friendly \u2014 which means I can bring Theo next time!<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Well, I can bring him anywhere because he\u2019s a service dog. But even if he wasn\u2019t, he\u2019d be welcome at any Le Germain! We stan a dog-friendly hotel chain over here \u2764\ufe0f<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not every room type allows pets (double-check before booking), but knowing I could share this kind of space with him? That\u2019s a game-changer. There\u2019s so much green space to roam, and I saw a few other guests walking their pups around the property.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I can already see us doing lazy mornings on the balcony, watching the cows wander around while he tries to figure out what a Highland is.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Note: Pets can\u2019t go in some areas of the hotel: the restaurant, breakfast room, spa\/pool, fitness area. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I couldn\u2019t find any specific information for this hotel on their pet policy, but the <a href=\"https:\/\/assets.germainhotels.com\/germain-website-assets-production\/website-assets\/Germain-H%C3%B4tels\/Le-Germain\/Germain_Politique_Animaux_Domestiques_de%CC%81c2023_EN.pdf?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Le Germain company policy<\/a> limits it to 1 pet per room with a $45 for the entire stay (not per night!). They say they provide a bed, water and food bowls, and \u201ctreats and leash if required\u201d. <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Is_It_Worth_It\"\/>Is It Worth It?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I was hosted on this trip \u2014 so I didn\u2019t pay out of pocket \u2014 but I\u2019m already planning to go back. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le Germain Charlevoix is absolutely a luxury stay, but it\u2019s one that feels <em>intentional<\/em> \u2014 not just expensive for the sake of it. You\u2019re paying for peace, for comfort, for thoughtful design that actually helps you relax instead of perform.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even the dorm-style rooms make the experience more accessible if you\u2019re not looking for a full suite situation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Would I book this for a casual overnight stop between hikes?
