Here are 10 facts you maybe don\u2019t know about The Gambia.<\/h3>\n

1.It\u2019s known as \u201cThe Smiling Coast of Africa\u201d<\/h4>\n

The Gambia is often referred to as \u201cThe Smiling Coast of Africa\u201d thanks to the warmth and friendliness of its people. Visitors are often struck by how welcoming local communities are, making it a popular destination for travellers from around the world.<\/p>\n

2.English is the official language<\/h4>\n

As a former British colony, English is The Gambia\u2019s official language and is used in schools, government and business. However, many people also speak local languages such as Mandinka and Wolof.<\/p>\n

3.Birdwatchers love The Gambia<\/h4>\n

The country is one of Africa\u2019s top birdwatching destinations. More than 600 species of birds have been recorded here, including kingfishers, bee-eaters, herons and African fish eagles. The combination of wetlands, forests and coastal habitats makes it a paradise for nature lovers.<\/p>\n

The Gambia is the smallest country on mainland Africa, stretching for around 480 km along the Gambia River but only about 50 km wide at its widest point.<\/p>\n
