The formula here is slightly ominous:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>spirit<\/li>\n<li>sweetener<\/li>\n<li>\u201csomething else\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I mean, that could be anything\u2013 even milk! Traditionally, though, true \u201ccobblers\u201d have come to include mainly<a href=\"https:\/\/www.diffordsguide.com\/encyclopedia\/1227\/cocktails\/cobblers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"> fresh fruit<\/a>. And don\u2019t forget the<a href=\"https:\/\/abarabove.com\/how-to-make-crushed-ice\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"> crushed ice<\/a> and straw. What a classy drink! Because of the ice and light, fruity flavors, a<a href=\"https:\/\/abarabove.com\/recipe\/valencia-cobbler\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"> cobbler<\/a> is the perfect cocktail for a hot summer\u2019s day.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, the cobbler cocktail also gave rise to the cocktail shaker, perhaps even lending its name to the<a href=\"https:\/\/abarabove.com\/boston-shaker-vs-cobbler-shaker-the-two-most-popular-types-of-cocktail-shakers-explained\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"> cobbler shaker<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cobblers are very similar to <strong>juleps<\/strong> and <strong>smashes<\/strong>, and we\u2019re kind of including them all under the umbrella of \u201ccobbler\u201d here. (Please don\u2019t come at me with pitch forks.)<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re like me, you could fall down a real rabbit hole trying to figure out the differences. Honestly, I don\u2019t recommend it\u2013 I have two professional bartenders working with me to make sense of all the subtle differences, and it\u2019s still confusing to weed through all the arguments smashes vs. juleps vs. cobblers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But this is where subcategories come in and why there is so much debate about the official list of cocktail families.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.diffordsguide.com\/encyclopedia\/1562\/cocktails\/julep-cocktails\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><strong>Julep<\/strong><\/a>: Spirit, sugar, muddled mint\u2013 served in a julep cup with crushed ice and fresh mint leaves (or in a Collins glass if a tin is not available\u2013 presentation is quite important here!)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>3.
