So when your life went underground, the enemy offered you his interpretation: buried. I want to hand you heaven\u2019s interpretation instead, the one I\u2019ve had to relearn myself more than once. You are planted not buried, and that difference decides how you walk through the dark. Jesus said, \u201cUnless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain\u201d (John 12:24). He didn\u2019t just teach about seeds; He called Himself one.<\/p>\n
BURIED AND PLANTED LOOK THE SAME FROM THE SURFACE<\/strong><\/h5>\nIf you watched someone fill two holes, you could not tell which one was a grave and which one was a garden. The difference is never the dirt; it\u2019s what sits inside the seed and the intention of the one who put it there. David lived that tension for years. Saul crushed his reputation, took his wife, ended his job, and slandered his name, and from the surface it looked finished. People probably assumed it was over. However, seeds don\u2019t die and stay dead when God\u2019s hand is on them, because seeds carry life. So before you read your dark season as a funeral, walk with me through the five stages of a seed. They are the five stages of your dark season too, and you don\u2019t always recognize which one you\u2019re standing in until you look back.<\/p>\n
STAGE 1: YOU WERE PLANTED ON PURPOSE<\/strong><\/h5>\nNobody plants by accident. A farmer doesn\u2019t trip in the field and drop seed into a measured furrow at the right depth and season. Planting is the most intentional act in agriculture, so if God allowed you into the ground, He expects you back out of it. Dormant is not dead. That\u2019s why Joseph could look back over the pit and the prison and say, \u201cYou meant evil against me, but God meant it for good\u201d (Genesis 50:20). The enemy thought he was burying him. Heaven was doing agriculture.<\/p>\n
STAGE 2: THE SHELL HAS TO CRACK<\/strong><\/h5>\nPaul writes, \u201cWhat you sow is not made alive unless it dies\u201d (1 Corinthians 15:36). What exactly dies? The life in you stays; the shell around you goes. Every seed wears a hard casing that protected it in the bag, yet that shell will imprison you in the ground. You know what the shell is in us: pride, ego, image management, the self-protection that got you through your past. God cracks it open to release your future, because He isn\u2019t killing you; He is killing what wraps around you. Botany preaches this better than I can. Resin seals lodgepole pine cones so tight they only open in the heat of a forest fire, and some seeds refuse to germinate without a freezing winter first. Most people don\u2019t want to hear that part. The fire you begged God to put out may be the only thing that could open the shell.<\/p>\n
STAGE 3: ROOTS GROW DOWN BEFORE SHOOTS GROW UP<\/strong><\/h5>\nMost people don\u2019t know this: the root emerges first when a seed germinates, and life moves down before anything reaches for the sun. So if your life feels more hidden and more humble, growth has already started. Jeremiah 17:8 says the one who trusts the Lord is like a tree planted by the waters that \u201cwill not fear when heat comes\u201d and \u201cwill not be anxious in the year of drought.\u201d Roots purchase fearlessness in heat and calm in drought. Today\u2019s dirt builds tomorrow\u2019s stability. Jesus added that the seed grows in an order you can\u2019t rush: \u201cfirst the blade, then the head, after that the full grain\u201d (Mark 4:28). Paul adds one more gift for the underground years: what you sow looks nothing like what comes up. The acorn doesn\u2019t resemble the oak, so stop judging your future by its current form.<\/p>\n

Life under pressure beats pressure without life every time. Here\u2019s the part that heals something. The soil that covered the seed is the same soil that feeds the seed, because the plant pulls every nutrient it needs from the ground that buried it. It doesn\u2019t resent the dirt; it eats it. In God\u2019s hands, He composts the betrayal, the slander, and the overlooked years into growth. One warning, though: the hardest layer is the last layer, since the sun-baked crust at the surface packs denser than everything beneath it. If the resistance just intensified, you\u2019re not far from the surface. You\u2019re touching it.<\/p>\n
