It combines 31,000 Pa suction with AI-powered navigation, a continuously self-cleaning mop, and an unusually detailed app that lets you create different cleaning routines for every room.<\/p>\n After testing it in a house with one large dog, six cats, mixed flooring, and enough floating fur to assemble at least two additional pets, I\u2019m impressed. It\u2019s expensive, and the app takes some exploring, but the Flow 2 solves several of the problems that have made other robot vacuums less useful in a busy pet household.<\/p>\n First, some background on my house and fur family: Freya, my Pharaoh Hound, sheds short, fine hairs that are surprisingly hard to pick up. The cats contribute plenty of their own fur, along with the fluffy tumbleweeds that appear in corners approximately five minutes after I vacuum. So far, it has handled all three remarkably well.<\/p>\n Oh, last note- I know that this is TechnoBARK and the pics show cats. Freya had zero reaction to NARWAL. It vacuumed within a foot of her and she just kept right on sleeping. That\u2019s actually a major pro, too because she usually freaks out and runs outside when we vacuum. <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The basic setup process is relatively straightforward. Once the docking station is in place and the robot is connected to the app (which took less than a minute), the Flow 2 needs to map the house before it can create individual rooms and cleaning routines.<\/p>\n Mapping in large homes or multiple floors could take a while, but it did my entire downstairs in about 15 minutes, and the resulting map was super detailed. It probably would have finished even sooner if it hadn\u2019t needed to navigate around several cats who just wouldn\u2019t leave the poor NARWAL map in peace. <\/p>\n The only \u201cissue\u201d that I had with mapping is that I\u2019m not sure where it\u2019s getting the 279.4 ft from for the mapping size, as my downstairs is definitely larger than that. It doesn\u2019t affect anything related to cleaning, though, and I may be misreading something there, like maybe it means something else. So, it\u2019s really a non-issue issue. <\/p>\n I saw another reviewer mention that the Flow 2 didn\u2019t recognize door frames or room transitions properly. I didn\u2019t experience that at all. It mapped my downstairs accurately and had no trouble identifying where one room ended and another began. It\u2019s possible that earlier firmware had an issue with this, but the current version handled my layout without a problem.<\/p>\n The robot also supports multi-level mapping, so you can create maps for different floors. Naturally, it cannot climb the stairs by itself. We haven\u2019t reached that stage of household robotics yet. YET. <\/p>\n Obstacle avoidance is one of the Flow 2\u2019s strongest features, especially for pet households.<\/p>\n I\u2019ve tried about four other older robot vacuums in the past. While they all advertised object avoidance, none of them came close to NARWAL\u2019s level. Most of them had to actually bump into something before realizing it was an object to avoid. Others would manage to avoid my cats, but they\u2019d freak out and just sit there until I either moved the cat or the vacuum. <\/p>\n The Flow 2 was significantly more careful. During its first cleaning job, Nori kept jumping directly in front of it. Every time, the robot stopped immediately and adjusted its route. It didn\u2019t bump into him once. It also avoided the other cats as they wandered through the room or sat in its path.<\/p>\n The system uses dual 1080p cameras and AI object recognition to identify obstacles and make navigation decisions in real time. NARWAL says it can detect objects as small as 0.2 inches, although results with very small or unusual objects can vary.<\/p>\n The practical takeaway is that the Flow 2 doesn\u2019t simply detect that \u201csomething\u201d is in front of it. It attempts to understand the shape and position of the obstacle before choosing another route.<\/p>\n It still makes sense to pick up charging cables and very small cat toys before cleaning. No object-recognition system is infallible, and I don\u2019t plan to sacrifice a phone charger in the name of product testing. However, the Flow 2 requires far less floor preparation than many older robot vacuums.<\/p>\n My dining room provided another good test of the Flow 2\u2019s navigation. At one point, it needed to move between the wall, several chair legs, and two cats who were contributing nothing useful to the situation. Only one narrow path remained open.<\/p>\n The Flow 2 paused and appeared to \u201clook\u201d back and forth for a moment. Then it aligned itself precisely and went through the gap without hitting the wall, the chair, or the cat. I think it drives better than I do!<\/p>\n It also navigated around dining room chairs without repeatedly circling the same legs or giving up and declaring half the room inaccessible. <\/p>\n The NARWAL Flow 2 has up to 31,000 Pa of suction, which is exceptionally powerful for a robot vacuum.<\/p>\n High suction numbers don\u2019t automatically guarantee good cleaning. Brush design, floor contact, navigation, and the robot\u2019s ability to adjust to different surfaces also matter. In this case, the complete system works well.<\/p>\n The Flow 2 did a great job on:<\/p>\n Freya\u2019s hair is a particularly useful test because it\u2019s short, fine, and good at embedding itself in carpet fibers. Large clumps of fluffy pet hair are easy for most vacuums to see and collect. Tiny individual hairs are much more annoying.<\/p>\n The Flow 2 picked up an impressive amount from both the low-pile carpet in my office and the thicker carpeting elsewhere downstairs.<\/p>\n Its CarpetFocus system uses a retractable pressure plate to create a tighter seal against the carpet. According to NARWAL, this produces up to 4.2 times the instant suction of the industry average. That comparison comes from the company\u2019s internal testing, but I can say that the real-world carpet performance has been very good.<\/p>\n The Flow 2 can also perform a second carpet pass in the opposite direction. This helps disturb the carpet fibers and pull out debris that wasn\u2019t collected during the first pass.<\/p>\n The Flow 2 uses what NARWAL calls the DualFlow Zero-Tangle System. It combines short main rollers with a long-bristle side brush designed to reduce wrapped hair.<\/p>\n NARWAL advertises a 0% hair-entanglement rate certified by SGS. I tend to treat \u201czero tangle\u201d claims with some caution because pet hair has a remarkable ability to challenge the confidence of vacuum manufacturers. Long human hair can be even more determined.<\/p>\n So far, though, the brush system has handled the mix of dog and cat hair in my house very well.<\/p>\n The design should also reduce the amount of time spent cutting hair away from the roller. You\u2019ll still want to inspect the brushes periodically, especially in a heavily shedding home, but they appear to require less attention than traditional roller brushes.<\/p>\n The FlowWash system is more interesting than the basic mop pad found on many robot vacuum and mop combinations.<\/p>\n Instead of dragging the same increasingly dirty pad across the entire floor, the Flow 2 uses a rolling track mop that continuously washes itself with fresh water as it cleans. A scraper removes dirt and dirty water from the mop, and the waste is collected separately.<\/p>\n That solves one of my biggest complaints about robot mops. It also offers several carpet-cleaning settings, including avoiding carpet, crossing carpet, boosting suction, and vacuuming while the mop is raised.<\/p>\n Since most of my downstairs is carpet, I prefer creating room-specific cleaning routines. I can tell it to vacuum the carpeted rooms and use the mop only in the kitchen and dining room.<\/p>\n This provides more control than relying entirely on automatic carpet detection, especially when area rugs vary in thickness.<\/p>\n The Flow 2 handled my low-pile area rugs and medium-pile carpeting well. If you have very thick rugs or rugs with long fringe, you may want to create a no-go zone around them. That\u2019s expected though when an app offers this much control, but you don\u2019t need to learn everything before using the robot.<\/p>\n If you would rather let the Flow 2 handle the decisions, you can use Freo Mind. It analyzes the room and adjusts its cleaning routine based on the surface and conditions it detects. You can start with Freo Mind, then customize individual settings later as you become familiar with the app.<\/p>\n Or you can continue using Freo Mind indefinitely. There is no requirement to earn an advanced degree in robot vacuum management.<\/p>\n NARWAL lists the Flow 2\u2019s operating volume at under 56.5 dB. It has several vacuuming levels, including a quiet mode that works well when the robot is cleaning my office while we\u2019re working.<\/p>\n Even on a higher setting, it\u2019s significantly quieter than a standard upright vacuum. These features let you use the robot\u2019s cameras to check an area of the house or look for a pet.<\/p>\n Whether your pet wants to participate in a video call is another matter.
