{"id":7038785,"date":"2026-08-16T04:50:04","date_gmt":"2026-08-16T04:50:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/uncategorized\/chinas-z-ai-unveils-glm-5-3-claims-chart-leading-scores\/"},"modified":"2026-08-16T04:50:04","modified_gmt":"2026-08-16T04:50:04","slug":"chinas-z-ai-unveils-glm-5-3-claims-chart-leading-scores","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=7038785","title":{"rendered":"China\u2019s Z.ai unveils GLM-5.3, claims chart-leading scores"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.siliconrepublic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Z.ai_GLM.jpeg\" \/><\/p>\n<div itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n<p>GLM-5.3 scores 84.5pc on CyberGym, ahead of Anthropic\u2019s Mythos 5 and OpenAI\u2019s GPT-5.6 Sol.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chinese AI company Z.ai has unveiled its latest open-weights model \u2013 GLM-5.3 \u2013 whose performance, it said, rivals that of the newest OpenAI and Anthropic frontier launches, marking the latest in the ever-escalating battle between US and Chinese companies for AI dominance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The new model makes a significant leap in capability compared to its predecessor GLM-5.2, which launched in June.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">GLM-5.3 is \u201cmuch better\u201d at complex coding and long-horizon tasks, Z.ai said, boasting a 50pc improvement from the older version in its in-house code benchmarks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The company plans to release GLM-5.3\u2019s weights in two weeks\u2019 time, after wrapping up safety evaluation and hardening.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c[GLM-5.3] delivers markedly stronger agentic coding results than GLM-5.2 at every effort level while consuming fewer output tokens,\u201d Z.ai said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">GLM-5.3 also proves significantly capable at exploiting vulnerabilities, scoring 84.5pc on CyberGym, above Anthropic\u2019s Mythos 5 and OpenAI\u2019s GPT-5.6 Sol.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe expected this to make the model better at finding and reasoning about vulnerabilities. What surprised us was how quickly the capability continued to develop as training scaled,\u201d Z.ai said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite its lofty claims about the new model, the Hong Kong-listed company\u2019s shares slid nearly 4pc by market close today (14 August).<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis firm remains on a completely unsustainable commercial footing,\u201d intelligence analyst Robert Lea told <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-08-14\/z-ai-aims-to-catch-anthropic-openai-in-coding-with-new-ai-model?srnd=phx-technology\">Bloomberg<\/a>. \u201cRising agentic AI will drive Z.ai\u2019s inference costs and losses higher.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chinese-made models are increasingly offering performances on par with American counterparts at cheaper prices, in spite of the heavy constraints around chip exports into the country. Last month, Z.ai completed the construction of a data centre where it has installed at least 10,000 Chinese-made chips to help develop its GLM line of models.<\/p>\n<p>Other frontier offerings from China, including <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.siliconrepublic.com\/business\/bloomberg-moonshot-ai-closes-3-5bn-round-at-35bn-valuation\">Moonshot<\/a>\u2019s latest Kimi model, DeepSeek\u2019s V4 models and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.siliconrepublic.com\/machines\/alibaba-unveils-qwen3-8-max-preview\">Alibaba\u2019s Qwen series<\/a>, have all ranked highly in benchmarks and testing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beijing-based start-up Z.ai went public in January this year, raising funds at a market capitalisation of nearly $7bn.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shares at the company surged 2,000pc in June following the launch of GLM-5.2, taking Z.ai\u2019s valuation to $128bn, though that has since fallen to around $75bn.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><em>Don\u2019t miss out on the knowledge you need to succeed.
