That\u2019s how you know it\u2019s your type. The thing other people think is your weakness is, indeed, your weakness. In their eyes. Because it\u2019s important to them. It\u2019s not important to you.<span id=\"more-22207\"\/><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m an ENTJ. People always write about how ENTJs come off rough and don\u2019t take time to say things nicely. This is correct. And I don\u2019t care. I mean, I care when people tell me I hurt their feelings, but not enough to, like, become an INFJ \u2014 the master of delivering bad news with kindness.<\/p>\n<p>Z took this picture of me. I was coaching someone and Z heard me say, \u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter how much you love the idea. It\u2019s not a business. It\u2019s a wish.\u201d Z sent me the picture with the caption:\u00a0<em>Breaking another person\u2019s heart.<\/em> I saved it all these years because I was proud.<\/p>\n<p>I wouldn\u2019t want to be an INFJ because they think everyone shares their values and then they\u2019re disappointed in everyone for not living up to those values. If you tell an INFJ this is their problem, they\u2019ll be like, yeah. I know. But they\u2019re not going to stop orienting their lives around their values.<\/p>\n<p>INFPs don\u2019t make a lot of money and they don\u2019t care. I mean, they care like I care about being nice: lip service to ensure it doesn\u2019t get totally out of control.<\/p>\n<p>We usually talk about type in terms of what people care about. But what we don\u2019t care about is what makes us really unique. And what we don\u2019t care about is intrinsic: it\u2019s not changing. Every type gets to pick which problems count, and every type quietly picks the same way \u2014 the big, type-defining problem doesn\u2019t make the list.<\/p>\n<p>So each type solves a problem from its own wheelhouse instead. ENTJs solve that we don\u2019t have a good enough army behind us. INFPs solve that they don\u2019t have enough meaning in their lives. ENFPs\u2019 weakness is never committing, but the problem they solve is not enough opportunities opening up.<\/p>\n<p>So what\u2019s important isn\u2019t to see your weakness. You don\u2019t care. What\u2019s important is to see your blind spot. The blind spot is not the thing you care about, and it\u2019s not the thing you\u2019re consciously ignoring \u2014 ignoring takes awareness. It\u2019s the thing in between.<\/p>\n<p>Personality type is most useful when it\u2019s about the blind spot, because no one can just tell you and you know. Personality type is most fun when it\u2019s about weaknesses, because it\u2019s amazing what each type thinks is okay. The next Personality Type Office Hours will be about the difference.
