It\u2019s an unfair trade\u2014but we call it grace.\u201d \u2014Ron Edmundson<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMy grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.\u201d \u20142 Corinthians 12:9<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Grace is undeserved and unmerited.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More often than not, I bring my leftovers to God. I don\u2019t mean to\u2014really\u2014but I find myself offering Him my leftover time, energy, and resources when the day has drained me of my best. My heart yearns to give Him more, and He sees this intention beneath my imperfect offerings. After decades of walking with God, I\u2019ve learned that He doesn\u2019t wait for my perfection. He meets me in my mess.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If it weren\u2019t for grace filling the cracks of my relationships\u2014with children, parents, friends, and strangers\u2014where would I be? I have brought to God all that I am\u2014my triumphs and failures, my strength and weakness, my certainty and doubt\u2014and He reaches into the very place where I live.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He brings grace to fill my emptiness. He brings love to heal my hardness. He brings second chances when I\u2019ve exhausted all my own.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I have often needed those second chances. I believe generations of women before me would link arms in acknowledgment of our shared human shortcomings. At this stage of life, I\u2019ve stopped expecting perfection from myself. Instead, I\u2019ve learned to look for God in the gaps\u2014those spaces where my ability ends and His begins.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"575\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nancybouwens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/katie-treadway-2OOiqCrrGbQ-unsplash-1024x575.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-82589\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nancybouwens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/katie-treadway-2OOiqCrrGbQ-unsplash-1024x575.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.nancybouwens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/katie-treadway-2OOiqCrrGbQ-unsplash-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.nancybouwens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/katie-treadway-2OOiqCrrGbQ-unsplash-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.nancybouwens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/katie-treadway-2OOiqCrrGbQ-unsplash-1536x863.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The beauty of growing older in faith is recognizing that the cracks in our lives aren\u2019t flaws to be hidden\u2014they\u2019re channels for grace to enter. Like ancient pottery repaired with gold, our mended places often become our most beautiful features.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I will continue to grasp the opportunity for second chances as time marches on. I am a woman who still wrestles daily with herself, but I am created by God and called for a purpose that doesn\u2019t diminish with age. I seek His hand upon my days and smile at His love pouring over me with grace\u2014not just daily, but moment by moment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The wonder isn\u2019t that we stumble in our imperfections. The wonder is that in these very gaps, we discover God waiting, ready to transform our leftovers into something beautiful.
