Let
\n me be brutally honest: selling a $500 Seiko or a $50K Rolex is a piece
\nof cake. Anyone can do it, and I\u2019ve done it countless times. But selling
\n my own watch is incredibly difficult – and I hate doing it.<\/p>\n
Here\u2019s why. Selling is nothing more than telling the story of a watch
\nand highlighting what\u2019s in it for you. That\u2019s it. There\u2019s nothing more
\nto it. But even the most reputable, accomplished, and acclaimed maker
\nwould struggle to sell his own watch. Makers are poor salesmen.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, finding someone to tell my own story is nearly
\nimpossible. And even if it weren\u2019t, I am certainly not willing to pay
\nsomeone to sell me. I would rather do a very poor job myself than pay an
\n influencer, journalist, or blogger to do an even worse one. A poor
\noriginal is still better than the best fake.<\/p>\n
This morning, we recorded a short video about \u201ca watch manufactured in
\nAustralia.\u201d It\u2019s a 30-minute retrospective of a 10-year journey. Getting
\n Josh to us was a real challenge, but he obliged. These days, the
\nBrookvale workshop is a busy place, with two young engineers and four
\nyoung machinists running high-precision manufacturing around the clock.
Yes, we\u2019ve come a long way.<\/p>\n
What\u2019s in it for you?<\/p>\n
Perhaps just one thing: if a na\u00efve but determined bunch can do it, then
\nyou have no excuse not to pursue your own dreams. I\u2019ll stop short of
\ncalling this video inspirational, because that was never the intention.
\nBut the message is pointed: creative, determined, and motivated dreamers
\n have no choice but to swim against the stream.<\/p>\n
