It\u2019s hard to pinpoint the exact moment I first stepped into True Anomaly Brewing Co<\/a><\/strong>., but I vividly remember the skepticism that surrounded its debut. Back then, the EaDo landscape felt like a bit of a gamble. We all had those nagging questions: Where are we going to park? Is it going to be too crowded? Can a brewery this ambitious actually survive here?<\/em> <\/p>\n

On March 19, True Anomaly posted this on Facebook<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Looking back, True Anomaly didn’t just thrive during its time with Houston; it defined the neighborhood. It was one of those rare spots you fell in love with before you even took your first sip.<\/p>\n

The Spirit of the Mission<\/strong><\/h3>\n

I first got to know the heart behind the operation when Michael Duckworth<\/strong> appeared on the Galactic Coast Power Hour in July 2019. He spoke with us about the “launch” of TA\u2014a mission centered on calculated risks and experimentation. They weren’t just making beer; they were seeking to fill in the edges of the map not yet explored in Houston.<\/p>\n

While they mastered the hazy IPAs everyone craved, their real soul in those early days lived in the Barrel Room. Rumored to be one of the largest and most unique in the region, it was a temple for wild, sour, and Belgian-style ales. They explored depths of flavor that most breweries wouldn’t dare touch.<\/p>\n

More Than Just a Taproom<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The vibe at True Anomaly was a perfect reflection of Houston itself. It was a true melting pot\u2014clean, welcoming, and staffed by people who were genuinely excited to talk beer.<\/p>\n

Over the years, TA became a hub for the community and the great times we had….<\/p>\n

The Collaborations:<\/strong> They were constant fixtures in the scene, brewing with the likes of Vallensons’ Brewing<\/strong> and No Label Brewing<\/strong>, and showing up at every local beer festival if the schedule allowed.<\/p>\n

The Memories:<\/strong> I\u2019ll never forget the Girls Pint Out (Clear Lake\/Galveston chapter) event where we gave away Broo shampoo and conditioner to the ladies in the taproom.<\/p>\n

The Atmosphere:<\/strong> Whether it was DJ Marc West spinning sets in the taproom or the buzz of a pre-game crowd, the energy was unmatched.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a specific kind of EaDo magic that happens when a quick stop at True Anomaly turns into an accidental marathon. This one time, a good friend and I meant to preparty a bit before the Queen concert at the Toyota Center, but the vibe was too good to leave. The walk over was a bit of a blur, and because of the fun we had, it remains one of my favorite nights in the city.<\/p>\n

“TA was one of the stand out breweries in Houston and in the state of Texas. There will always be many fond memories of amazing beer releases and the great people that worked there over the years. True Anomaly will be leaving a huge void in the Houston beer scene that will not easily, if ever, be filled.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTrue Anomaly has brewed above average beers for every occasion. They’ve brewed ales and lagers that balance low to moderate ABV with crisp flavors and pleasant aromas. These beers were easily enjoyed during hot days on the patio on Dallas street, during sporting events and for keeping one’s wits about themselves during social time at the bar. True Anomaly has brewed some legitimate masterpieces in the wild ale\/ saison category. Many of their funky ales have been aged in wine barrels, and several of which fermented in oak foeders. Beers like “Freedom 7”, “Saison Sefer”, “Red Giant” and many others had all the flavors and sensory notes of a crisp, funky and peppery saison, plus the addition of tart wine notes. Beers that True Anomaly brewed and bottled in this category tasted like a hybrid of deliciously fruitful wine in combination with crisp, carbonated beer. Anything that came in a green bottle from True Anomaly was elite quality. In this writer’s opinion; there is no other Texas brewer that is currently producing any foeder aged\/ wine barrel aged ales that compete with what True Anomaly has put out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Greg even shared this message from The True Anomaly Brewing Company Lacrosse Club who participates in the Odyssey Lacrosse League – a recreational men’s league based in Houston, TX. The league consists of 12 recreational teams – most of which have local brewery sponsorship.<\/p>\n

So much more than a taproom. The initial draw for space nerds like myself was the NASA oriented decor. It created a vibrant space for beer drinking surrounded by historically significant depictions of launch vehicles, shuttle schematics, and Apollo capsule renditions. The famous Saturn V rocket in all of its liftoff glory welcomed patrons by the front door, staging the experience for a stellar craft experience. In my favorite part of the brewery, the men\u2019s bathroom, you could admire creative wire frames of the Apollo rocket final stage, its command and service module, that first took humanity to land on the moon. The mission plan timeline at the bottom provides a prideful outlook on the accomplishments of the world changing program.  If your bladder provided you more than one trip to the men\u2019s room, you also had the chance to view this Shuttle wireframe adjacent to the Apollo stall. The Space Shuttle era was mighty and powerful, providing most of the human spaceflight hardware needed in orbit that has allowed us to continuously occupy low earth orbit for over 25 years. This vehicle inspired several brews.  And of course, the beer! Their famous Go Flight was a popular favorite. The hoppy citrus suds served smooth and colder than cryogenic rocket fuels. Any hop head instantly fell into murky love with this exceptional brew. <\/p>\n

The decor and the beer were simply unforgettable and provided a truly unique Houston (i.e. Space City) experience. Like any successful mission, the most somber moments are after the mission completes. We will all look back and miss the excitement they created in our local beer universe.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

End of an Era<\/strong><\/h2>\n

True Anomaly had liftoff, and for many of us, it became a favorite. Yes, they won the awards\u2014that\u2019s what happens when you brew world-class beer\u2014but they achieved something much harder: authenticity.<\/strong> The taproom vibe was real, honest, and consistently a good time. It\u2019s rare to find a place that feels both like a high-tech lab and a neighborhood living room.<\/p>\n
