Deep Thoughts belongs firmly in the second category. Across six tracks, the Bronx-rooted artist gives listeners a direct look into his mindset, balancing ambition, confrontation, vulnerability and determination without losing the raw character that makes his delivery immediately recognisable.

The EP opens with “Wake Up,” setting the tone with the kind of energy that suggests an artist unwilling to remain passive. From there, Deep Thoughts develops around a recurring sense of movement. There is something to prove, something to overcome and something worth chasing. Modest’s writing carries that urgency, but he never sounds like he is forcing the message. His verses feel conversational in places, then suddenly sharpen into punchlines that land with precision.

That is one of the strongest aspects of his artistry. Modest knows how to rap. His delivery is confident and controlled, but there is still enough roughness around the edges to preserve the personality of the performance. He does not sound overly polished or detached from the culture that shaped him. Instead, there is a hunger in his voice that gives the music its pulse.

“Fell Off To Put On” adds another layer to that mindset. The title alone suggests sacrifice, setbacks and the determination to turn difficult periods into something productive. It fits naturally within a project that repeatedly looks at the relationship between struggle and ambition. Modest’s perspective feels less interested in pretending that success is easy and more concerned with what it takes to keep going when circumstances change.

Then comes “Love Language,” featuring Deviachi, which provides an important shift in atmosphere. Rather than allowing the EP to exist entirely within bravado and competitive energy, the collaboration introduces a more personal dimension. It reminds us that behind the confidence is an artist capable of exploring relationships and emotional experiences without abandoning his identity.

“Deep Water” takes that introspective quality further. The track feels particularly important within the wider project because it reinforces the idea behind the title itself. These are not simply surface-level thoughts. Modest is willing to explore uncertainty and pressure while still maintaining the strength that defines his delivery.

The energy changes again with “Hunger Games,” where the competitive spirit becomes impossible to ignore. Here, Modest sounds driven by the kind of ambition that refuses to be comfortable. His flow remains one of the project’s biggest strengths, with his ability to move between measured storytelling and harder-hitting passages keeping the listener engaged.

Closing with “Who Want The Smoke,” the EP finishes on a much more confrontational note. It is an effective ending because it brings the project back to the confidence that has been present throughout, leaving the listener with a clear sense of Modest’s personality.

What makes Deep Thoughts interesting is not simply the individual tracks. It is the balance between the different sides of Modest. There is the rapper who wants to compete, the artist thinking about his circumstances, the person dealing with relationships and the individual determined to keep pushing forward.

Modest also deserves credit for allowing his natural cadence to remain at the centre of the music. His flow has a lived-in quality. It does not feel like he is trying to sound like somebody else. There is an unmistakable confidence in the way he approaches his verses, and that authenticity gives the project its strongest moments.

At the same time, Deep Thoughts does not pretend to have all the answers. Its appeal comes partly from the fact that Modest sounds like someone still working things out. The project captures an artist in motion, thinking through pressure, ambition, relationships and the desire to make something meaningful from his experiences.

That makes the title more than a name. These really do feel like thoughts put into motion through rhythm and rhyme.

With “Wake Up,” “Fell Off To Put On,” “Love Language,” “Deep Water,” “Hunger Games,” and “Who Want The Smoke,” Modest delivers a project that feels personal without becoming overly exposed and confident without becoming predictable.

Deep Thoughts is ultimately a portrait of mindset. It is about hunger, resilience, self-belief and the complicated journey of trying to move forward while carrying everything that came before you.

And that is where Modest makes his strongest impression. He is not simply performing over beats. He is documenting where his head is at, one bar at a time.
