This time it was with Bhaskar Sunkara, who invoked Erik Olin Wright\u2019s conception of managers as occupying \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/sunraysunray\/status\/2078657917415309595\">contradictory locations within class relations<\/a><span>.\u201d Ordinarily I like to challenge these ideas about the power of the so-called managerial class with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.peoplesline.org\/p\/musk-twitter-and-the-power-of-ownership\">more recent illustrations<\/a><span>; but today, I think it might be useful to look back at what Marx had to say on the topic. Marx\u2019s writing is not scripture, of course, but I think his commentary on this topic is unusually insightful, even today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Let\u2019s not, however, revisit the text that usually comes up in these conversations \u2014 <\/span><em>The Communist Manifesto<\/em><span>, which I have argued is often grossly misread in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.peoplesline.org\/p\/notes-on-the-petty-bourgeoisie\">its discussion of the petit bourgeoisie<\/a><span>.
