There was a time when I thought the busiest person in the room was the most successful one. <\/p>\n

Hint: that was before I nearly burned out at 27.<\/p>\n

My calendar was color-coded (of course it was, confession it still is), my inbox never quite reached zero, and if someone asked how I was doing, my answer was almost always the same.<\/p>\n

\u201cBusy.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Almost like it was a badge of honor.<\/p>\n

Looking back, it\u2019s funny. We wear our exhaustion like a designer handbag. We compare calendars the way kids compare hockey cards.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou think you\u2019re busy? Let me tell you about my week\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Somewhere along the way, we confused being productive with being perpetually occupied.<\/p>\n

And that, I believe, is one of the biggest lies hustle culture ever sold us.<\/p>\n

Because here\u2019s what I\u2019ve learned after more than two decades as an entrepreneur, life and career coach, and keynote speaker: being busy and being effective are not the same thing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In fact, they\u2019re often opposites.<\/p>\n

I see it everywhere I go.<\/p>\n

Whether I\u2019m coaching ambitious women one-on-one<\/a>, standing on a conference stage speaking<\/a> to hundreds of professionals, or simply chatting with someone after an event, the conversation almost always lands in the same place.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m exhausted.\u201d<\/p>\n

Not because people don\u2019t love their work.<\/p>\n

Because they don\u2019t know how to stop carrying it.<\/p>\n

The emails don\u2019t end.<\/p>\n

The notifications don\u2019t stop.<\/p>\n

The to-do list reproduces overnight like rabbits.<\/p>\n

(Seriously\u2026 ever wonder who keeps adding things to your list while you\u2019re sleeping?)<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve created a world where \u201calways available\u201d has quietly become the expectation. Somewhere along the way, productivity stopped being measured by impact and started being measured by responsiveness.<\/p>\n

But our nervous systems were never designed for constant input.<\/p>\n

Neuroscience tells us that chronic stress keeps our bodies in a prolonged state of sympathetic activation\u2014better known as fight-or-flight. While this response is incredibly useful during a true emergency, living in that state day after day elevates cortisol, impairs memory and concentration, reduces creativity, and eventually leads to physical and emotional exhaustion.<\/p>\n

In other words, the very habits we believe are helping us succeed are often the ones quietly undermining our performance.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s why you can stare at your computer for twenty minutes trying to remember why you opened that document in the first place.<\/p>\n

Or walk upstairs only to wonder what you came for.<\/p>\n

Or reread the same email three times before hitting send.<\/p>\n

No, you\u2019re probably not losing your mind.<\/p>\n

You\u2019re overloaded.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a difference.<\/p>\n

A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of delivering a keynote to more than 700 professionals.<\/p>\n

It was magical. <\/p>\n

\"Payroll<\/figure>\n

Afterward, something interesting happened.<\/p>\n

People didn\u2019t line up to ask me how they could fit more into their already packed schedules.<\/p>\n

They asked something entirely different.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow do I keep doing meaningful work without burning myself out?\u201d<\/p>\n

That question stopped me in my tracks.<\/p>\n

Because I think we\u2019re finally asking better questions.<\/p>\n

The conversation is shifting.<\/p>\n

People aren\u2019t looking for another productivity hack.<\/p>\n

They\u2019re looking for sustainability<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

They\u2019re looking for permission to succeed without sacrificing themselves in the process.<\/p>\n

And here\u2019s the beautiful irony.<\/p>\n

The highest-performing people I\u2019ve ever worked with are rarely the ones operating at full speed all day long.<\/p>\n

They know when to sprint.<\/p>\n

They know when to recover.<\/p>\n

Elite athletes understand this instinctively. No one expects an Olympic sprinter to run at maximum intensity twenty-four hours a day. Recovery isn\u2019t considered weakness. It\u2019s part of the training.<\/p>\n

Yet somehow, in the workplace, we\u2019ve convinced ourselves the opposite is true.<\/p>\n

That skipping lunch is commitment.<\/p>\n

That answering emails at 10:30 p.m. proves dedication.<\/p>\n

That vacation is simply a different location from which to check Slack.<\/p>\n

We would never expect our phones to function without recharging.<\/p>\n

Yet we somehow expect more from ourselves than we do from our own devices.<\/p>\n

Maybe it\u2019s time we stopped glorifying depletion.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Maybe it\u2019s time we started celebrating sustainability instead.<\/p>\n

This doesn\u2019t mean lowering your ambitions.<\/p>\n

Please hear me on that.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve spent my entire career encouraging women to dream bigger, raise their hand, start the business, write the book, ask for the promotion, and take up space.<\/p>\n

I still believe all of that.<\/p>\n

I just don\u2019t believe success should cost you your health.<\/p>\n

Or your relationships.<\/p>\n

Or your joy.<\/p>\n

Real success isn\u2019t about how much you can cram into a calendar.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s about building a life where your energy matches your purpose.<\/p>\n

Where your work feels meaningful instead of draining.<\/p>\n

Where productivity is measured by impact, not exhaustion.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s the heartbeat behind my newest keynote, Redefining Hustle Culture: Sustainable Success in an Always-On World.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Because I believe we\u2019re ready for a new definition of ambition.<\/p>\n

One where boundaries aren\u2019t barriers \u2014 they\u2019re strategy.<\/p>\n

Where self-care isn\u2019t selfish \u2014 it\u2019s leadership.<\/p>\n

And where success isn\u2019t measured by how busy you look, but by how fully you\u2019re able to show up for the life you\u2019ve worked so hard to build.<\/p>\n

Maybe the future doesn\u2019t belong to the people who hustle the hardest.<\/p>\n

Maybe it belongs to the people who learn to sustain their brilliance.<\/p>\n

And if that\u2019s true, then perhaps the smartest thing you can do this week isn\u2019t adding one more thing to your calendar.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s creating enough space to actually enjoy the life that\u2019s already on it.<\/p>\n
