Its economic argument is narrower than the phrasing. Every task Atlas absorbs is an hour a worker does not book.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-47412\"\/> <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Pick, Carry, Place, Repeat | Inside the Lab with Atlas\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/v8UaiRgqvlc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hyundai\u2019s answer: <\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Robots are not in the dispute. A written statement to Ars Technica on July 22 said robot deployment in Korean plants forms no part of current talks, which the company described as a discussion about pay. The first Atlas units are scheduled to go to Metaplant America near Savannah, Georgia, in 2028.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The catch: <\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The payback math is softer than it looks. Samsung Securities pairs $130,000 a unit against $80,000 in annual single-shift labor cost, implying payback inside two years. That holds only if one robot covers one full shift. In Georgia, Atlas will unload and sort oversized boxes in the scheduling yard. That is a fraction of a job. Hyundai declined to say how many workers do it now.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The precedent: <\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hyundai Steel settled in late July with a side memorandum promising employment through retirement for current union members as the industry takes on AI. Members have not ratified it. Ulsan now has a precedent inside its own group to cite.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Watch for: <\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Three things over 18 to 24 months. Whether Atlas handles parts sequencing at Metaplant without safety or quality problems. Whether Hyundai publishes a price at which humanoids beat the fixed automation it already owns. Whether rival automakers move or wait for Georgia to report.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The upshot: <\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hyundai says human-centered robotics means easier work.
