We also read reviews and watched YouTube videos before finally making our decision. Looking back, our priorities were surprisingly simple. We weren\u2019t looking for the fastest or flashiest car. We were looking for the one that would make everyday family life easier.<\/em><\/p>\n If you\u2019re buying your first family car in the Philippines, these were the six things that mattered most to us.<\/p>\n For our family of three, these were our priorities, in order.<\/p>\n As first-time car owners and a new driver, safety came first.<\/p>\n One feature that gave me peace of mind was having six airbags. Surprisingly, not many compact cars and hatchbacks in the Philippines offer six airbags as standard. We asked some friends who are long-time car owners. They said having \u201ctoo many pillows\u201d isn\u2019t that important in daily city driving because most cars run like carabaos. But as new drivers starting to learn at 40, I think at least four airbags are a must.<\/p>\n If you\u2019ve driven around Cebu, you already know that parking spaces aren\u2019t created equal.<\/p>\n Some malls have generous parking slots. Others feel like they were designed for cars from the 90\u2019s. Roads can also be narrow, especially in older parts of the city.<\/p>\n I was still building confidence behind the wheel. I wanted a car that I can comfortably park almost anywhere. During my driving lessons, I used small cars like WiGo and Almera, so I learned how to maneuver smaller vehicles. I didn\u2019t want to stress every time I entered a basement parking lot.<\/p>\n We knew from the beginning that we\u2019d buy a Japanese brand. Most Japanese car parts are widely available. That means most mechanics are familiar with them, and they\u2019ve earned a reputation for lasting a long time.<\/p>\n Initially, we were almost certain we\u2019d buy a Toyota. We even considered second-hand cars because of the cost. But we decided against it. We didn\u2019t want to deal with the headache of going regularly to shops for repairs.<\/p>\n After comparing long-term reliability, owner experiences, and maintenance schedules, Honda gradually became our top choice.<\/p>\n Fuel prices in the Philippines can change dramatically.<\/p>\n Fuel prices surged due to tensions in the Middle East. This showed us how unpredictable the cost of owning a car can be. We even briefly considered buying an electric vehicle.<\/p>\n In the end, we decided to stick with proven technology. We comfortably fit two adults, one child, school bags, groceries, and other everyday items without feeling cramped.<\/p>\n Not necessarily. If most of your trips involve only three people, a compact car can be easier to drive. It\u2019s also simpler to park and maintain. A compact car costs less to own.<\/p>\n We valued easier parking, fuel efficiency, and lower ownership costs more than extra passenger capacity.<\/p>\n Both brands have excellent reputations for reliability. We initially expected to buy a Toyota, but Honda ultimately matched our priorities better. To quote a YouTuber mechanic: \u201cWalang pera sa Honda.\u201d That\u2019s because it rarely has issues.
