The massive turnout for just 150 contract positions created a stampede-like situation at the venue, overwhelming the stadium’s capacity and raising serious concerns about crowd management. The rush of desperate job seekers highlighted the acute unemployment crisis facing the region’s youth.

The HYDRAA had announced recruitment for 100 Disaster Response Force assistants and 50 heavy vehicle drivers on contract basis. The recruitment drive was scheduled to be conducted over two days, on August 8 and 9. However, the announcement triggered an unexpected response from jobless youth across Hyderabad and surrounding districts, who arrived at the stadium early in the morning hoping to secure one of the limited positions available.

Aspirants from adjoining districts began arriving at Saroornagar Stadium as early as dawn, leading to severe overcrowding at the venue. The sheer number of candidates far exceeded the organizers’ expectations, creating a tense atmosphere and raising safety concerns. Many job seekers had traveled from distant areas, reflecting the desperation among unemployed youth to find stable employment opportunities, even for contract positions.

The recruitment process announced by HYDRAA does not include any written examination. Instead, candidates will be selected based on their performance in physical events and tests. This format likely contributed to the massive turnout, as many aspirants saw it as an accessible opportunity that did not require extensive preparation for written tests. The physical selection process was designed to identify suitable candidates for the demanding roles in the Disaster Response Force and as heavy vehicle operators.

The incident at Saroornagar Stadium underscores the growing challenge of unemployment in Telangana, where thousands of qualified youth compete for a handful of government and semi-government positions. The ratio of over 5000 applicants for just 150 posts reflects the severe job scarcity in the region, with many educated and skilled individuals struggling to find suitable employment opportunities despite their qualifications.

Tension and chaos erupted at Saroornagar Stadium in Hyderabad on August 8, 2026, as more than 5000 unemployed youth gathered for a recruitment event organized by HYDRAA.
