Sophie Alway founded Georgia\u2019s Voice after her teenage daughter took her own life during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.<\/p>\n

The Chy in Redruth, which helps fund the charity Georgia\u2019a Voice<\/a> opened 18 months ago.<\/p>\n

The cafe is currently open on weekends but If the charity could raise additional funds over the coming months, it aimed to open The Chy 24 hours a day, seven days a week.<\/p>\n

Alway said the charity had been actively supporting 120 women aged 18-25 and it was \u201cabsolutely amazing to get some recognition for the cafe\u201d.<\/p>\n

She said: \u201cIt\u2019s [the cafe] one of our ways of bringing in an income to keep our services running and free.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Chy is staffed by trained support workers providing free one-to-one support, drop-in sessions and group workshops to help young women develop coping strategies and gain essential life skills, leaders said.<\/p>\n

Discussing the hub\u2019s location, Ms Alway said: \u201cWe chose Redruth because there is a real need here.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is an area of great deprivation, but also it is an area with fantastic transport links, so it\u2019s very easy for people to get to from all over Cornwall.\u201d<\/p>\n

She explained the Village Kitchen was \u201ca little village, it\u2019s a really wonderful, warm community space which anybody can access\u201d and all the funds went to the support services.<\/p>\n

She said: \u201cIn five years, I think we have achieved so much with our support groups, we\u2019ve now got our drop-in hub, we\u2019ve got our free counselling service, we\u2019re just opening more and more things all the time, which is brilliant.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt absolutely is such a fantastic legacy for my daughter, her memory is living on, everybody knows her name, it is fantastic,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
