{"id":7030904,"date":"2026-08-06T22:03:28","date_gmt":"2026-08-06T22:03:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/apple-2\/openai-says-apples-trade-secrets-lawsuit-is-aggressive-and-oddly-personal\/"},"modified":"2026-08-06T22:03:28","modified_gmt":"2026-08-06T22:03:28","slug":"openai-says-apples-trade-secrets-lawsuit-is-aggressive-and-oddly-personal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=7030904","title":{"rendered":"OpenAI says Apple&#8217;s trade secrets lawsuit is &#8220;aggressive and oddly personal&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.arstechnica.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/openai-logo-1152x648-1741196873.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The start-up said Apple \u201cnever raised the specific allegations in this lawsuit at that time\u201d and \u201cin fact told us that they were \u2018resolving any issues.\u2019 We then heard nothing for five months until they sued.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Apple alleged in its lawsuit that Chang Liu, a former employee who worked on some of its \u201cmost sensitive product development programs,\u201d accessed Apple\u2019s trade secrets after leaving the company in January.<\/p>\n<p>However OpenAI said Apple employees had themselves contacted Liu \u201cand asked for his help to locate this information,\u201d something the iPhone maker \u201conly now admits.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Apple also named in its lawsuit a second former employee, OpenAI\u2019s chief hardware officer, Tang Tan, whom it accused of seeking out proprietary information when interviewing Apple\u2019s employees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTang has always been clear with the team that we do not want, and must not use, any confidential information from other companies,\u201d wrote OpenAI.<\/p>\n<p>Apple on Monday sought a preliminary injunction in the US to prevent former employees and OpenAI from accessing, using, or disclosing its trade secrets. It also filed a second motion asking the court to expedite discovery and order several OpenAI employees, including Liu and Tan, to sit for depositions.<\/p>\n<p>OpenAI said Apple\u2019s request for a preliminary injunction was \u201cboth based on false information and completely unnecessary because we do not have, nor want, any of their trade secrets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cApple is one of the greatest companies of all time, and built a reputation for obsessing over the smallest details. This careless, aggressive and oddly personal lawsuit sadly doesn\u2019t live up to that reputation,\u201d the ChatGPT maker wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/\">\u00a9 2026 The Financial Times Ltd<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\">All rights reserved<\/a>.
