The proposal focuses on permitting limited construction while preserving most of the land for greenery, open spaces, and essential public infrastructure. This initiative marks a significant shift towards sustainable land-use planning in one of the city\u2019s most environmentally sensitive zones.<\/p>\n<p>A <strong>high-level expert committee<\/strong> has submitted recommendations covering nearly <strong>1.32 lakh acres<\/strong> spread across <strong>84 villages<\/strong> in the catchment area of <strong>Osman Sagar<\/strong> and <strong>Himayat Sagar<\/strong>. Rather than lifting development restrictions across the entire region simultaneously, the committee proposes starting with <strong>six to eight villages<\/strong> located within the <strong>Outer Ring Road<\/strong>. Planning experts have recommended that all projects avoid obstructing natural rainwater channels and incorporate sustainable infrastructure, including <strong>sewage treatment plants<\/strong> and <strong>zero liquid discharge systems<\/strong>. These measures are designed to reduce pollution risks, improve water management, and support climate-resilient urban development.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>GO 111 regulations<\/strong> were originally introduced in <strong>1996<\/strong> to protect the catchment areas of the two reservoirs, which historically served as major drinking water sources for <strong>Hyderabad<\/strong>. With the city now receiving substantial water supplies from the <strong>Krishna<\/strong> and <strong>Godavari river systems<\/strong>, policymakers are reassessing land-use restrictions while seeking to preserve environmentally sensitive areas. The current review reflects changing urban water supply dynamics and the need for updated planning frameworks.<\/p>\n<p>Urban planners view the initiative as an opportunity to create a low-density, environmentally conscious urban model that integrates residential development with green infrastructure. However, they emphasize that any relaxation of development norms must be supported by robust environmental monitoring, scientific zoning, and strict enforcement of sustainability standards.
