Hagen Blix and Ingeborg Glimmer have written a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/jacobin.com\/2026\/07\/ai-nationalization-wage-depression-de-skilling\">Socialist Case Against Nationalizing AI<\/a><span> for Jacobin, and it plays all the usual hits of modern progressive advocacy: fight-capitalism-by-fighting-its-symptoms, crypto-anarchist critiques of wielding the state against capital, a fetish for \u201cmovement-building\u201d without explaining what this movement is supposed to do, and a thin veneer of Marxist rhetoric painted over all of it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>I tried writing a piece untangling this knot, but it\u2019s just too tedious \u2014 so instead, I thought it might be useful to discuss some relevant passages from Marx\u2019s \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thenewobjectivity.com\/pdf\/marx.pdf\">Fragment on Machines.<\/a><span>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week I remembered why I\u2019ve mostly stayed out of left debates over artificial intelligence: they\u2019re a complete mess.
