Early detection matters.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\">What he didn\u2019t tell you in his post but mentioned in a News<br \/>\n12 Long Island interview is that he first went to one doctor who told him to<br \/>\ncome back if it got worse. Years later he went for a check up with another<br \/>\ndoctor, who immediately recognized that this was a form of cancer which needed<br \/>\nto be removed.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\">The first doctor\u2019s conclusion? That was a <i>misdiagnosis<\/i>!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\">This is not meant to blame the doctor who misdiagnosed him,<br \/>\nand I\u2019m not making light of his suggestion to wear sunscreen.\u00a0 What I am bringing to your attention is how<br \/>\neasily a misdiagnosis slips under the radar as if it is not an important part<br \/>\nof the story.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\">Too often, when the patient survives, we lose sight of the<br \/>\npatient safety and advocacy lessons in the story. \u00a0Did you miss that point?\u00a0 How common is misdiagnosis?
