Alina Bobrova<\/a>. Rooted in the vast landscapes of Kazakhstan, the ongoing project is a dialogue between Bobrova and her father. Throughout Bobrova\u2019s life, her family spent a lot of time traveling. In 2021, when this project first began, Bobrova traveled between the United States and Kazakhstan revisiting sites from ancestral stories with her father, and \u201clistening to how landscapes remember what we cannot\u201d. However, after her father\u2019s sudden passing in the spring of 2025, the project shifted. Her father\u2019s absence reshaping everything Bobrova has been building her whole life.<\/p>\n\u201cThe project, once expansive, has turned inward\u2014anchored now in one country, and one terrain: Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan is a country where my ancestors built their lives, and where my own grief has taken root. The unexpected passing of a family member erases a whole world of memories without warning, leaving only fragments of stories we can never fully recover. I feel a deep urgency to preserve my family archives and safeguard those fragments before they disappear. For me, photographs are vessels of presence, evidence of love, and proof that a life was lived. In a world where displacement continues across borders and generations, I see photography as a universal language. A universal language that keeps me connected to those who came before me, even as time pulls us apart.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
