Top holdings frequently include giants like Nvidia, Broadcom, and Apple.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"Z1qcYe\" data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-sfc-root=\"ep\" data-sfc-cb=\"\" data-hveid=\"CAIIAAgACAcQCQ\" data-copy-service-computed-style=\"font-family: &quot;Google Sans&quot;, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 400; margin: 0px 0px 12px; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 0px rgb(10, 10, 10);\"><span class=\"iNqyIf\" data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-sfc-root=\"ep\" data-sfc-cb=\"\" data-copy-service-computed-style=\"font-family: &quot;Google Sans&quot;, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 400; margin: 0px; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 0px rgb(10, 10, 10);\">Beyond that article you can also consider\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"iNqyIf\" data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-sfc-root=\"ep\" data-sfc-cb=\"\" data-copy-service-computed-style=\"font-family: &quot;Google Sans&quot;, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 400; margin: 0px; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 0px rgb(10, 10, 10);\"><strong class=\"Yjhzub\" data-sfc-root=\"ep\" data-sfc-cb=\"\" data-copy-service-computed-style=\"font-family: &quot;Google Sans&quot;, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 700; margin: 0px; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 0px rgb(10, 10, 10);\">Fund:<\/strong> TD Global Technology Leaders Index ETF (TSX: <strong>TEC<\/strong>) \u2013 with a lower MER and TEC is also heavily-traded in Canadian-dollars so this is a low-cost option for global tech.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-sfc-root=\"ep\" data-sfc-cb=\"\" data-hveid=\"CAIIAAgACAcQCQ\" data-copy-service-computed-style=\"font-family: &quot;Google Sans&quot;, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 400; margin: 0px 0px 12px; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 0px rgb(10, 10, 10);\">Finally, you can stick with what I * used to own <strong>QQQ<\/strong> or a Canadian-listed ETF that clones it \u2013 those ETFs invest in the top-100 companies on the NASDAQ-100 index so it\u2019s a very passive way to own tech and AI-related tech.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>* I used to own QQQ <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myownadvisor.ca\/then-and-now-qqq\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>but I sold all of it<\/strong> about a year ago now<\/a> in favour of 1. portfolio simplicity and 2. Canadian-listed ETF investing. I\u2019m better for it \u2013 since <strong>my two-fund Canadian-listed ETF solution is up about 12%<\/strong> combined YTD for almost 50% of my portfolio and we don\u2019t need to worry about AI run-ups or bubbles anymore in doing so. Hindsight will provide all the facts but instead of guessing I\u2019ll continue with my two-fund solution along with many Canadian stocks that pay us dividends and see where we net out a few years from now. My guess is we\u2019ll be just fine. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><em>Do you own lots of tech in your portfolio? Any AI specific stocks you own? Why or why not?<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>More Weekend Reading \u2013 Beyond how to play the AI game<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<p>Unlike <em>The Globe and Mail<\/em>, I don\u2019t believe LIRAs (Locked-In Retirement Accounts) are too difficult to figure out. Yes, they have some quirks and yes, they do fit into a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/investing\/globe-advisor\/advisor-news\/article-managing-a-clients-lira-as-part-of-a-broader-retirement-portfolio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">broader retirement portfolio<\/a> (subscription) but the account structure can be put into a few simple bullets:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #555555;\">LIRAs are similar to RRSPs, but they\u2019re locked in = Locked-In Retirement Account is in the name so owners cannot <\/span><span style=\"color: #555555;\">make contributions. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #555555;\">Locked-In also means there are restrictions on withdrawals when the time comes. <\/span>Investors can\u2019t typically withdraw money from a LIRA until the age of 55. (That will be me.) This is because unlocking eligibility is determined by the pension legislation governing the LIRA. Most plans are provincially regulated, but some are federal, it depends on where the pension originated. (My LIRA is in Ontario.)<\/li>\n<li>Finally as part of the basics, like an RRSP\/RRIF, a LIRA must be converted to a LIF by the end of the year the investor turns 71. Similar to a RRIF, there are minimum annual withdrawal amounts for a LIF, based on age and account value. However, LIFs also have a maximum withdrawal limit set by the pension jurisdiction governing the plan \u2013 essentially a locked-in feature protecting the life income fund (LIF) \/ pension-like money <em>for you for life.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you have a LIRA, it must be managed like any other investment account but don\u2019t overthink it.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the design of LIRAs (like other registered accounts in retirement) the money has to come out at some point.
