One speaks with pressure. The other has an undercurrent of peace.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n There\u2019s a knowing inside you that understands.<\/span><\/p>\n Recognize the voice that\u2019s always narrating, analyzing, worrying, and planning \u2014 that\u2019s the ego, and it\u2019s loud.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n I want to call your attention to the quieter signal. A feeling of expansion in your whole body when you align with something true. A calm, unhurried knowing that doesn\u2019t need to explain itself.<\/span><\/p>\n That is your Soul\u2019s voice. Your body is the receiver. The messaging from this higher place doesn\u2019t necessarily only happen in your mind. Perhaps that is the last place it\u2019s accurate.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Learning to tell the difference between these two channels is one of the most important life-mastery skills you will ever develop.<\/span><\/p>\n Your ego operates through your mind \u2014 through thought, analysis, and the stories it has constructed about who you are and what you\u2019re capable of. It is linear, logical, and often demanding, relentless and loud.<\/span><\/p>\n The Soul communicates differently. It doesn\u2019t argue with you. It doesn\u2019t explain itself in bullet points. It conveys an <\/span>inner knowing<\/span><\/i> \u2014 a quiet certainty that often defies conventional logic but feels undeniably true.<\/span><\/p>\n Here\u2019s a simple way I describe it to my clients:<\/span><\/p>\n Ego-driven thoughts tend to feel:<\/b> urgent, pressured, fear-based, constricting, heavy, comparative, and insistent.<\/span><\/p>\n Soul-guided knowing tends to feel:<\/b> calm, expansive, light, patient, clear, curious, alive.<\/span><\/p>\n If you\u2019re in the middle of a big decision and you feel a frantic energy pushing you toward a particular choice, that\u2019s your ego seeking certainty and control. If you feel a quiet, unshakeable draw toward something, even if it doesn\u2019t make logical sense, that\u2019s direction coming from your Soul.<\/span><\/p>\n One of the most powerful and underutilized tools for distinguishing ego from Soul is your own body.<\/span><\/p>\n Your physical body is exquisitely designed to reflect what your energy system knows. Long before your mind has processed something, your body has already responded.<\/span><\/p>\n Think about a time when someone asked you to do something that felt fundamentally wrong. Perhaps you felt a tightening in your chest, or a sinking in your gut, or a sudden heaviness in your shoulders. That was your body communicating a truth your mind was still busy analyzing.<\/span><\/p>\n Now think about a time when you received an invitation, direction or suggestion that felt deeply aligned. An opportunity that lit you up, a connection that felt immediately real. There was probably an opening, an expansion, a lightness. Your body knows. If this feels out of reach, may I suggest you\u2019re \u201cin your head\u201d and getting grounded and rooted down into the body, can be the break through.<\/span><\/p>\n In spiritual psychology, we call this <\/span>attunement<\/span><\/i> \u2014 the practice of learning to read the messages your body is always broadcasting. Tuning into your body is not mystical. It is deeply practical intelligence that most of us were never taught to access, let alone follow.<\/span><\/p>\n Try this: the next time you\u2019re weighing a decision, close your eyes and take three slow breaths. Then, rather than thinking about the choice, <\/span>feel<\/span><\/i> it in your body. Does it expand or contract? Does it feel heavy or light? That sensation is <\/span>personal<\/span><\/i> information. Designed specifically for you. Learn to treat it as such.<\/span><\/p>\n Part of what makes this discernment so challenging is that the ego is clever. It doesn\u2019t always announce itself. It can dress up in the language of responsibility, practicality, even wisdom.<\/span><\/p>\n Here are some of the ego\u2019s favorite headliners:<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m just being realistic.\u201d<\/b> This is often the ego shutting down the possibility before your Soul can fully explore it. Realism has its place \u2014 but when it consistently forecloses on your deepest potential, it\u2019s worth examining.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI should be grateful for what I have.\u201d<\/b> Gratitude is a Soul quality. But when \u201cgratitude\u201d becomes a reason to suppress your authentic longing for growth and expansion, it\u2019s the ego using a spiritual concept to keep you small.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWhat will people think?\u201d<\/b> This is one of the ego\u2019s most potent strategies. The need for external approval is the ego\u2019s lifeblood. The Soul, by contrast, doesn\u2019t require a standing ovation. It simply knows what is true.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not ready yet.\u201d<\/b> Readiness, as the ego defines it, never fully arrives. There will always be more to learn, more to prepare, more boxes to check. The Soul moves in alignment with divine timing, which often looks nothing like the ego\u2019s timeline of urgency.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Remember that famous campaign, \u201cJust do it\u201d? I\u2019d like to offer that as encouragement.<\/span><\/p>\n The relationship between your ego and your Soul is not a battle to be won. It is a dynamic to be <\/span>integrated<\/span><\/i>. We need the ego. It\u2019s not a part of us to be banished and thrown out! We cannot be here, in these bodies, on this planet without the ego. The intention is to have the ego be in service to the higher part of you.<\/span><\/p>\n This is inner work. And like any relationship, it deepens with attention and intention. When the ego is aligned with what it fears, it will direct you into one of the headliners described above.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n A simple daily practice:<\/b> Before you begin your day, take five minutes to sit quietly. Place your hand on your heart. Ask your Soul: <\/span>What do I need to know today? What is true?<\/span><\/i> Then simply listen. Don\u2019t analyze the response. Don\u2019t judge it.
