This year hasn\u2019t gone quite the way that Chinese animator Zehao \u201cTara\u201d Hou planned. She started 2026 working on The Mobius of Life<\/em>, a film about nature and philosophy, while completing her first year in USC\u2019s Expanded Animation Research + Practice MFA program. Then the university uncremoniously announced that it would close<\/a> the program, known as XA and launched<\/a> only a few years prior, effective June 30.<\/p>\n

\u201cI felt like there were so many emotions inside of me, and I couldn\u2019t let them out,\u201d Hou told Cartoon Brew<\/em> in a recent conversation.<\/p>\n

She abandoned the project she had planned and, in roughly ten days, wrote a new script, created new opening and closing material, and pulled two years\u2019 worth of animation experiments into a three-minute short called\u00a0The 70 Deadly Sins<\/em>, which we\u2019re excited to exclusively debut today.<\/p>\n
