\nWhat is Gin?<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/div>\n
\nGin is a kind of
\ndistilled, colorless to a pale yellow and flavored alcoholic drink, made from
\ndistilled fermented grains and other botanicals, with a predominant juniper
\nflavor, comes with a pine-like flavor. Other botanicals include coriander,
\nangelica, lemon, orange, orris root, etc. It has an ABV (Alcohol by Volume)
\npercentage of 40-50%.<\/span><\/div>\n

\nHistory of
\nGin <\/span><\/span><\/b><\/div>\n
\n<\/a><\/div>\n
\nThe name Gin comes
\nfrom the French name for the juniper berry, Genever. This drink was started as
\nherbal medicine in the 13th century. In the 16th century, Dutch started
\nproducing a spirit called “Genever”. It consisted of a malt wine base
\nand juniper berries to give a harsh flavor. In the 17th century, Professor
\nFranciscus Sylvius of Leiden University, Holland distilled the juniper berry
\nwith spirits to produce an inexpensive medicine having diuretic properties of
\njuniper berry oil. In the latter half of the 17th century and in the early
\nyears of the 18th century, gin became popular in England, and thousands of gin
\nshops were grown rapidly in England. This period is known as Gin Craze. At that
\ntime a bottle of gin was cheaper than a bottle of beer. As a result, England’s
\npoor people began drinking gin less responsibly and poor people of England
\nbegan to die. Almost 4-5 years later, the government introduced a distiller’s
\nlicense to control drunkards.nIn 1751, the Gin Act came to control spirit
\nconsumption. It raised the taxes and fees for retailers. <\/span><\/div>\n
\nIn 1830, a
\nFrench-born Irishman named Aeneas Coffey introduced a modified gin and created
\na revolutionary in liquor production around the world. He manufactured a much
\ncleaner and pure spirit than ever before. <\/span><\/div>\n
\nIn British Royal
\nNavy gin was used as an additive to decrease the bitter flavor of quinine,
\nwhich was used to prevent malaria of England’s sailors.<\/span><\/div>\n
\nGin consumption
\ncame down in the 20th century. It’s been re-embraced as a cult and craft
\ncocktail ingredient. In 2013 gin became popular worldwide with new
\nbrands. <\/span><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nTypes of Gin<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\n\"Types<\/a><\/div>\n
\nNormally gin is
\nclassified into five categories, as sloe gin is considered as liquor more than
\ngin. Because of the amount of sugar added to it. In this article, six types of
\ngins are added, which are found around the world. Other styles of gins are
\nmanufactured from these six types of gins. <\/span><\/div>\n
\n
<\/b><\/div>\n
\nLondon Dry Gin<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/div>\n
\nPeople know this as a simple gin. It is typically dry with a very
\nhigh juniper flavor. Other aromatic ingredients are also infused to get a
\nflowery and botanical flavor. This gin must be distilled with at least 70% ABV
\nand only water. This style is great for classic martinis, gin and tonics, and
\naviation cocktail. <\/span><\/div>\n
\n
<\/b><\/div>\n
\nPlymouth Gin<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n

It is less dry than the London Dry Gin. Plymouth gin
\nis only made in Plymouth Gin. This gin is infused with soft juniper and more
\nroots, resulting in a soil-like flavor than London. Currently, Plymouth Gin
\nDistillery is the only manufacturer of Plymouth Gin. <\/span>
\n
<\/b>
\nOld Tom Gin<\/span><\/b> <\/span>
\nIt is sweeter than London dry gin. This gin was
\noriginally used for the Tom Collins (Tom Collins recipe- gin, lemon, and soda).
\nBrands of Old Tom Gin are Hayman’s or Ransom. <\/span>
\n
<\/b>
\nGenever or Dutch Gin<\/span><\/b> <\/span>
\nIt has a distinct color and taste to other
\ntypes of gins. Genever is made from a base of malt grain, which gives it a
\ndarker color and a light-bodied, botanical whiskey-like robust flavor. Cloves,
\ncaraway, ginger, nutmeg, etc are also added as flavor. <\/span>
\n
<\/b>
\nNew American or International Style Gin<\/span><\/b> <\/span>
\nIt refers to the all-new style
\nof gins that use the same base distilling process, but infused with different
\nflavors other than juniper berries. Examples of New American or International
\nStyle Gin is Leopold’s American Small Batch Gin, Schramm Gin, Aviation Gin,
\netc.<\/span>
\n
<\/b>
\nSloe Gin<\/span><\/b> <\/span>
\nIt is a flavored gin using slow, berries with sugar. Sloe gin is a
\nfruit cordial. Some sloe gins are made with vodka also. <\/span>
