{"id":68757,"date":"2025-02-05T01:11:53","date_gmt":"2025-02-05T01:11:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/aerospace\/us-aviation-unions-voice-concern-over-trump-tariffs\/"},"modified":"2025-02-05T01:11:53","modified_gmt":"2025-02-05T01:11:53","slug":"us-aviation-unions-voice-concern-over-trump-tariffs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=68757","title":{"rendered":"US aviation unions voice concern over Trump tariffs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>US aviation unions shared concerns about potential disruptions to aviation after the Trump administration announced it planned to implement tariffs on Canada and Mexico.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>These tariffs were initially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/fact-sheets\/2025\/02\/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-imposes-tariffs-on-imports-from-canada-mexico-and-china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">implemented<\/a> on February 1, 2025, in order to \u201chalt illegal immigration and stop poisonous fentanyl and other drugs from flowing into the US.\u201d On February 3, 2025, US President Donald Trump revealed he would delay the 25% tariffs on imports from these countries for one month.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After the announcement, the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) released a <a href=\"https:\/\/nbaa.org\/2025-press-releases\/nbaa-issues-statement-on-pause-for-canada-and-mexico-tariffs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">statement<\/a> saying that disruptions to business aviation could have \u201cprofound consequences, and workarounds that meet the exacting regulatory requirements take months or years to establish.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to the NBAA, business aviation is a \u201cpowerful driver\u201d of the US economy, supporting over a million jobs and contributing nearly $250 billion in economic development.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCritical to this essential industry is a complex, highly regulated global supply chain, supported by a number of bilateral agreements that are required to meet stringent safety standards, while ensuring the reliable flow of highly specialized goods,\u201d the NBAA statement read. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The NBAA expressed concerns that the tariffs could \u201cdisrupt the industry\u2019s unique supply chain, and the jobs, economic growth, manufacturing leadership and innovative edge that depend on it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"article-leaderboard bn-1\"\/>\n<p>\u201cWe welcome the administration\u2019s decision to pause the tariffs on Canada and Mexico, so that their implications can be fully understood,\u201d the NBAA said. \u201cEqually important, we look forward to working with the administration on policies that foster the growth of industries, including business aviation.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On the same day Brian Bryant, International President of the 600,000-member International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goiam.org\/press-releases\/iam-union-while-tariffs-pause-u-s-and-canadian-workers-should-have-seat-at-table\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">statement<\/a> that \u201cthe IAM Union is relieved that destructive tariffs between\u00a0[the US and Canada]\u00a0are being paused.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor decades, we have seen millions of good-paying, high-skilled US and Canadian jobs outsourced to countries with little to no labor rights,\u201d Bryant said. \u201cThanks to bad trade deals, tens of thousands of good IAM Union aerospace and defense jobs have become low-wage jobs in Mexico, while China has used forced technology offsets to create its own aerospace industry.
