{"id":67544,"date":"2025-02-04T08:48:10","date_gmt":"2025-02-04T08:48:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/aerospace\/faa-restores-notam-system-after-brief-outage\/"},"modified":"2025-02-04T08:48:10","modified_gmt":"2025-02-04T08:48:10","slug":"faa-restores-notam-system-after-brief-outage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=67544","title":{"rendered":"FAA restores NOTAM system after brief outage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Federal Aviation Administration\u2019s (FAA) NOTAM computer system is back up and running following a temporary shortage, according to US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On February 2, 2025, the FAA confirmed in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/newsroom\/statements\/general-statements\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">statement<\/a> that the NOTAM system, which provides updates about anything that may affect the safety of flight, is \u201conline and operational.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The outage began on February 1, 2025. Secretary Duffy said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SecDuffy\/status\/1885911345108848981\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">post on X<\/a> that \u201call active NOTAMs were available until the time of the outage.\u201d The agency activated its contingency system to supplement and support preflight briefings and continue flight operations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"article-leaderboard bn-1\"\/>\n<p>\u201cThe FAA is working to fully restore the system, and there may be some residual delays tomorrow morning,\u201d Duffy wrote the next day. \u201cWe are investigating the root cause, and we will provide updates. The FAA has set up a hotline to communicate with aviation stakeholders and will send notices every 30 minutes with updates on the system\u2019s status.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On the first day of the outage, there were 3,226 delays and 174 cancellations for flights within, into, or out of the United States, according to FlightAware data.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On February 2, 2025, there were 4,875 delays and 277 cancellations. On February 3, 2025, the day the NOTAM system was restored, the disruptions dropped significantly, with 496 total delays and 101 cancellations reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"article-leaderboard bn-2\"\/>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a process in place right now to get this system fixed,\u201d Duffy told <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2025\/02\/02\/travel\/notam-system-outage-flight-delays\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">CNN<\/a>. \u201cWe want to expedite that and get this new system in place.
