We believe, and our farmers across the state believe, that natural gas in rural North Carolina is important for advancing our number one industry and certainly it\u2019s important for economic development in rural North Carolina.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Pres Wooten on the Atlantic Coast Pipeline Approval\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HE13ipN5E0I?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the Atlantic Coast Pipeline (ACP)?<\/strong><br \/>Put simply, the ACP will help deliver natural gas to rural North Carolina. The new pipeline will link North Carolina to the abundant natural gas supplies of the Marcellus and Utica shale regions in the northeast. Traveling approximately 600 miles, the pipeline will move up to 1.5 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day. While most of that supply will used for electricity generation, there is sufficient volume to enable local natural gas distribution companies to expand their system to meet the demands of farmers and help drive rural economic development projects.<\/p>\n<div style=\"display: inline-block; width: 45%; float: right; margin: 0 20px 20px 20px; padding: 10px; border: 1px solid #333333;\">\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center; color: #ffffff; background-color: #900028; margin: -10px -10px 0px -10px; padding: 5px;\">KEY ACP INFO<\/h3>\n<div style=\"padding: 10px; background-color: #f1f1f1; margin: 0px -10px -10px -10px;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">600 miles from West Virginia, thru Virginia, ending in Robeson County, NC<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Provides 1.5 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">36-inch diameter pipe in NC<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Expected to provide $7.7 million in local property tax revenues in NC<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Possibility of $134 million in annual energy cost savings in NC<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Why the ACP is good for Agriculture?<\/strong><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstfurrow.com\/the-importance-of-infrastructure\/\">As we have discussed before<\/a>, rural infrastructure initiatives are critical to the success of our rural economy. This is exactly the intent of the ACP \u2013 to boost our rural economy. While boosting our rural economies, the availability of natural gas is a key component to growing the State\u2019s largest industry \u2013 Agriculture. This is a win-win situation.<\/p>\n<p>Before the pipeline has even been built, the ACP partners are already meeting with farmers to discuss viable areas to extend natural gas to their farms. Access to natural gas provides farmers lower input costs and less price volatility. It\u2019s also a critical component to siting NEW economic development projects. Currently, North Carolina is served by a single interstate pipeline delivering natural gas from the Gulf of Mexico. Adding additional supply from another region of the country provides diversity and competition, leading to the needed lower costs and price volatility. As the state\u2019s largest general agricultural non-profit, a win for North Carolina\u2019s rural economy and our farmers are great reasons to support this economic development project.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstfurrow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/ACPdurabond-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1033 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.firstfurrow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/ACPdurabond-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"447\" height=\"300\"\/><\/a>The Bottom Line.<\/strong><br \/>North Carolina\u2019s economic development infrastructure is reliant on a modern energy policy that promotes affordable and reliable energy production and delivery while protecting our farmers, landowners, and natural resources.
