If you’re still using a Thunderbolt 4 hub with your MacBook Pro or Mac mini, then you might want to consider upgrading to a Thunderbolt 5 hub, especially if your machine is of the newer M4 Pro/M4 Max variety with the upgraded I/O ports. Fortunately, our friends at CalDigit have just the solution for anyone in this predicament.

Announced just this week, CalDigit’s new Element 5 Hub brings 120Gb/s Thunderbolt 5 connectivity in the market’s most compact hub package yet. Additionally, it’s backwards compatible with 40Gb/s Thunderbolt 4 and USB4-equipped devices, so you can still use it even if you have something older than Apple’s latest M4 Pro/M4 Max-equipped Macs.

CalDigit markets the Element 5 Hub has a no-compromise hub that features high-performance ports. You get 9 total ports as a mixture of both USB-A ports operating at 10Gb/s and 7.5W of power and Thunderbolt 5/USB-C ports operating between 140Gb/s and 40Gb/s and between 7.5W and 90W of power.

Citing CalDigit, the Element 5 Hub is ideal for external storage devices because it provides up to 6,200MB/s performance, giving it the throughput it needs to handle multiple high-speed solid-state drives at the same time, harboring SD Card readers, or managing RAID storage devices.

The incredible throughout also unlocks multi-display support, with the ability to run dual displays on Macs with the M4 series chips or a single display with M3 series or older chips. If you’re a Windows user, and your host computer supports Thunderbolt 5, then you may be able to get away with up to three external displays. You can even use the Element 5 Hub with iPads, iPhones, and other compatible tablets.

Thanks to the 90W power supply provided at the main computer Thunderbolt 5 port, you can keep your MacBook Pro’s power brick put away. This dock not only brings powerful I/O to your desk, but also keeps your computer powered as you use it. CalDigit also claims that the Element 5 Hub will work with Apple’s SuperDrive thanks to a custom driver, even though many hubs do not support the Apple SuperDrive.

Not only is the Element 5 Hub compact, buts its power supply is also particularly compact. Punching in at 30W more power than the Element 4 Hub, the Element 5 Hub’s power supply manages to be 42% smaller, which means it’s easier to manage at your workstation.

If you’re interested in a CalDigit Element 5 Hub for your workspace, then you can head over to the company’s website where you can learn more about it and pick one up for the special 17% off launch sale price of $249.95 (normally $299.95).
