{"id":62457,"date":"2025-02-01T16:05:48","date_gmt":"2025-02-01T16:05:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/entertainment\/art\/clare-youngs-inspired-sun-painting-collage\/"},"modified":"2025-02-01T16:05:48","modified_gmt":"2025-02-01T16:05:48","slug":"clare-youngs-inspired-sun-painting-collage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=62457","title":{"rendered":"Clare Youngs Inspired Sun Painting &amp; Collage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<p>These bright sun collages were a favorite summer art project inspired by artist <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clareyoungs.co.uk\/\">Clare Youngs.<\/a><\/strong><span id=\"more-28339\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>First we rounded up a supply of painted paper scraps!\u00a0 We even made some extra just to have on hand (hanging up on the wall in these photos).<\/p>\n<p>We used <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3PX6cH1\">8&#8243; round cake circles<\/a> for the face and divided it in half with a piece of washi tape to give kids a straight line to follow.<\/p>\n<p>We painted with our bright colors of tempera paint and set the circle aside for a minute as we were painting our backgrounds.\u00a0 We simply instructed them to paint their background with two colors that they didn&#8217;t use on their face.<\/p>\n<p>While both the face and the background were still a little wet, we have them make a &#8220;kiss print&#8221; by gently pressing them together. This is a fave technique of ours to help add visual interest and texture.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28340\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smallhandsbigart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/suns-18.jpg\" alt=\"Clare Youngs Inspired Sun Art Project from Small Hands Big Art\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While the face and background were drying, we started cutting.\u00a0 And cutting.\u00a0 And cutting.\u00a0 We demonstrated how to cut shapes out of the strips of paper by folding them either vertically or horizontally.\u00a0 Kids were really fascinated by that and seemed to really enjoy practicing making cool shapes.\u00a0 We have them pile up their cut out pieces so we could use them in our collage later.\u00a0 We wanted both positive and negative shapes to use for our sun rays.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28351\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smallhandsbigart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/suns-11.jpg\" alt=\"Clare Youngs Inspired Sun Art Project from Small Hands Big Art\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28356\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smallhandsbigart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/suns-16.jpg\" alt=\"Clare Youngs Inspired Sun Art Project from Small Hands Big Art\" width=\"640\" height=\"778\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28357\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smallhandsbigart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/suns-17.jpg\" alt=\"Clare Youngs Inspired Sun Art Project from Small Hands Big Art\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28350\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smallhandsbigart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/suns-10.jpg\" alt=\"Clare Youngs Inspired Sun Art Project from Small Hands Big Art\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We covered the background with a thick layer of Mod Podge so that kids could just quickly arrange their sun rays in a radial pattern.\u00a0 We taught this in a mixed age summer camp &#8211; with kids as young as four and old as twelve.\u00a0 For the younger kids, it was helpful for them to draw light &#8220;guidelines&#8221; first -otherwise they got a little carried away slapping their sun rays on in every which direction!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28349\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smallhandsbigart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/suns-9.jpg\" alt=\"Clare Youngs Inspired Sun Art Project from Small Hands Big Art\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We have them work quickly to layer their shapes radiating from the middle.\u00a0 We just ignored all of the pieces hanging off the edges becuase we planned to trim them later.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28348\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smallhandsbigart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/suns-8.jpg\" alt=\"Clare Youngs Inspired Sun Art Project from Small Hands Big Art\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As you probably know, black makes all the other colors brighter, so weach student had to have at least one or two black sun rays.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28353\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smallhandsbigart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/suns-13.jpg\" alt=\"Clare Youngs Inspired Sun Art Project from Small Hands Big Art\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While our sun rays were drying, we got back to work on the face.\u00a0 We gave them some white adhesive labels to draw almond shaped eyes and stick on.\u00a0 Then we instructed them on either painting or drawing the facial features.\u00a0 We painted them in one class and drew them in another &#8211; I personally liked the painted versions better.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28352\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smallhandsbigart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/suns-12.jpg\" alt=\"Clare Youngs Inspired Sun Art Project from Small Hands Big Art\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28354\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smallhandsbigart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/suns-14.jpg\" alt=\"Clare Youngs Inspired Sun Art Project from Small Hands Big Art\" width=\"640\" height=\"515\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Lastly we hot glued the face on with some foam spacers so it was a little elevated off the paper.\u00a0 These were so bright &amp;
